MUMBAI, INDIA & MARIETTA, USA (India CSR): Birla Carbon, a leading manufacturer of high-quality carbon-based solutions, has released its 12th annual sustainability report titled “Sustainability In Action.” The 2024 report outlines the company’s commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and highlights its ongoing efforts in sustainable practices.
Commitment to Sustainability
The report emphasizes Birla Carbon’s focus on its net zero 4Rs strategy: Research, Reduce, Replace, and Repurpose. Through this approach, the company aims to minimize carbon emissions and enhance the sustainability of its operations. Additionally, all Birla Carbon plants have received ISCC PLUS certification, reflecting their adherence to stringent sustainability standards.
John Loudermilk, President & CEO of Birla Carbon, expressed pride in the company’s sustainability journey, stating, “In our 12th annual sustainability report, ‘Sustainability In Action,’ we reflect on our progress as a company, driven by innovation in sustainability. Looking ahead, we are excited about the opportunities to further grow our company with a focus on sustainability.” He added, “This year, we have made significant strides in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting circularity, and enhancing energy systems through strategic acquisitions like Nanocyl.”
Future Strategies
Joe Gaynor, Chief Legal, Sustainability, and Risk Officer, highlighted the importance of the “Share the Future” strategy, which integrates sustainability with corporate social responsibility. “By embodying these principles, we are integrating sustainability into the mainstream conversation around corporate stewardship and responsibility, and by doing so, we continue to ‘Share the Strength,’” he noted.

The 2024 report features several key achievements, including:
- ISCC PLUS certification for all 16 Birla Carbon plants.
- Interim greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets aiming for a 22% decrease in Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions intensity by 2030.
- The recognition of Continua™ SCM with a Gold Award at the Aditya Birla Group’s 7th Sustain-Ability Conference in 2024.
- A 40% reduction in total recordable incident rate (TRIR), underscoring its commitment to workplace safety.
