In the 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly Election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 54 seats in the 90-member assembly, leading to the Congress party’s defeat. He belongs to the Indian National Congress party and represents the Patan constituency in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly.

He was also the president of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress from 2014 to 2019. He started his political career at the Indian Youth Congress and became a member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1993. Bhupesh Baghel was born on August 23, 1961, in Durg, Madhya Pradesh, India. He is the son of Nand Kumar Baghel and Bindeshwari Baghel. His father was a farmer and his mother was a homemaker.

Baghel attended the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Durg. He then went on to study law at the Government Law College in Raipur. After graduating from law school, he started practicing law in Durg.

Baghel joined the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1980. He was elected to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1993. He served as a minister in the Digvijaya Singh government from 1999 to 2003.

In 2000, Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh. Baghel was elected to the first Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in 2003. He served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly from 2003 to 2008.

In 2008, Baghel was re-elected to the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. He served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly from 2008 to 2013.

In 2013, Baghel was re-elected to the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. He was elected as the President of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee in 2014.

In 2018, the INC won the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections. Baghel was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh on December 17, 2018.
