MUMBAI: In a one of its kind campaign to make Mumbai disability free, BEST buses, Mumbai’s much-loved reds on wheels, will now have posters in collaboration with google.org grantee Ratna Nidhi Trust- “if you know any polio or accident affected victim, you can call 7498989292. They will get Jaipur foot or polio callipers, absolutely free of charge from Ratna Nidhi Trust.”

This is a continuation of the program launched by Mayor of Mumbai, in association with Ratna Nidhi Trust, called the Make Mumbai Disability Free Campaign. The BEST (Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking), the civic transport and electricity provider public body based in Mumbai has joined hands with Ratna Nidhi for this noble cause.

Anil Sadashiv Kokil, Chairman BEST said, “we look forward  to partner with Ratna Nidhi Trust and ensure that more Mumbaikars get this powerful message of Make Mumbai Disability Free. If you know a person with disability, you can help them get Jaipur Foot and Callipers for free! Thousands of Mumbaikars will benefit from this. I cannot think of a better service to the city.”

Rajiv Mehta, Trustee, Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust said, “1 in 7 persons worldwide, suffer from some kind of disability- making disabled people the world’s largest minority. We are grateful to BEST for taking forward the social cause of Make Mumbai Disability Free.”

Ratna Nidhi is currently doing ward-wise planning to identify amputees and polio affected people who can be thus rehabilitated.

Dr. Anil Kumar Singal, Chief Medical Officer of BEST added. “We will place 3/4 posters, in 3400 BEST buses in Mumbai,  so that all the commuters can be aware of this drive. These posters will be a reminder that you can help someone with disability to lead a better life, absolutely free of charge.”
