CHENNAI: The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), the country’s oldest apex chamber, announced the formation of the ASSOCHAM Sustainability and CSR Council for Southern India in Chennai recently. The council aims to promote and facilitate sustainable practices and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives among businesses in the southern region of India.
A platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and advocating sustainable development
The council will work towards creating awareness, providing guidance, and encouraging collaboration among companies to drive positive social and environmental impact. It will serve as a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and advocating sustainable development in the corporate sector.
Speaking at this occasion, Abhishek Ranjan, Chairman of this council said that the primary objective of the ASSOCHAM Sustainability Council for Southern India is to foster and advance sustainability practices among businesses operating in the southern region of India. The council endeavours to promote a holistic approach to sustainability, encompassing economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
The council aims to create awareness and understanding of sustainable practices among corporations, encouraging them to adopt responsible and ethical business strategies. By facilitating knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities, the council will serve as a platform for exchanging best practices, innovative ideas, and emerging trends in sustainability.
Furthermore, the council seeks to provide guidance and support to businesses in implementing sustainable initiatives, including corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects. It will assist companies in developing strategies that prioritize environmental conservation, social well-being, and long-term economic viability.
Through collaborative efforts and partnerships with relevant stakeholders, the council will advocate for sustainable development, influencing policy frameworks and promoting sustainable business practices at the regional level. Ultimately, the council aims to drive positive change, enabling businesses to contribute towards a more sustainable and inclusive future for Southern India.
State Co-Chairs and CSR Experts appointed
The council also announced the appointment of State Co-Chairs for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala.
The State Co-Chairs will be responsible for leading the council’s activities and initiatives in their respective states. They are:
- Tamil Nadu: Garima Tyagi from Societe Generale Global Solution
- AP & Telangana: Krishna Yedula from Virtusa Consulting Services Private Limited
- Karnataka: Umesh Madiwala from Brillio
- Kerala: Anil Kumar Radhakrishna from Plant Lipids Private Limited
In addition, the council also appointed a panel of CSR and Sustainability Experts who will provide their insights and expertise on various aspects of sustainability and CSR. They are:
