KOLKATA (India CSR): Canon India has announced the adoption of Tongtala village in Baruipur, West Bengal, as the 11th community under its flagship Adopt a Village initiative. The programme will work with local residents and stakeholders to identify community priorities and create sustainable opportunities that improve living standards and strengthen self-reliance. Guided by Canon India’s 4Es CSR approach—Education, Eye Care, Environment and Empowerment—the interventions will focus on inclusive, grassroots development. Since its launch in 2012, the Adopt a Village initiative has positively impacted more than 300,000 lives across India, with participation from over 12,000 Canon volunteers.
The initiative marks the continued expansion of Canon’s efforts towards driving inclusive and sustainable growth within communities across India. The inaugural ceremony featured a keynote address by Mr. Toshiaki Nomura, President & CEO, Canon India, in the presence of Mr. Kailash Khandelwal, Director, Humana People to People India leadership.
As part of the initiative, Canon India will work closely with the Tongtala community and local stakeholders to identify priorities and undertake need-based interventions with a focus on creating sustainable opportunities and improving standard of living. These efforts will be guided by Canon India’s 4Es CSR approach – Education, Eye Care, Environment, and Empowerment, with the aim of strengthening community resilience, encouraging self-reliance and supporting sustainable development at the grassroots levels.
