MANGALURU: It has reported that Adani UPCL has declared a record Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) grant of Rs 536 crore towards the development in six villages near to the thermal power plant in Udupi district.
Of this, a sum of Rs 261 crore will be spent in the next 25 years for the first phase of the 1,200 mw project, which is already generating power and another Rs 275 crore in 30 years of the second stage expansion of the project of 1,600 mw, when the plant starts power production in 2020. The beneficiary villages are Bada, Thenka, Padubidri, Mudarangady, Yellur and Belapu.
Kishore Alva, joint president, Adani UPCL, informed that UPCL has already spent Rs 61 crore towards the development works under CSR in nearby villages and an amount of Rs 8 crore per year has been declared for the next 25 years, thereby earmarking Rs 261 crore for first phase.
During the second phase, Rs 35 crore will be spent in first year and every year Rs 8 crore will be earmarked for undertaking CSR activities, thereby, earmarking Rs 275 crores. With this, Adani UPCL shall be declaring CSR grant worth Rs 536 crore in the next 25-30 years, which is a record in the CSR grant, he told. He added that Adani UPCL is playing a role model in the history of CSR activities for the development of the villages.
He said the company had distributed health insurance cards to 3,822 villagers of Yellur, the insurance premium amount is about Rs 30 lakh. This Adani Arogya Card will enable villagers to avail free medical treatment worth Rs 50,000 in any of the private hospitals. Already 9,000 villagers have been benefitted with this scheme and this would be continued for the next 25 years, Alva said.
Giving details of the CSR activities, Alva said UPCL has initiated its CSR activities in Yellur village by granting Rs 46 lakh for the drinking water supply scheme. Recently, it had declared a grant of Rs 3.75 crore to Yellur Grama Panchayat and the road concreting works have been taken up worth Rs 65 lakhs, he added. He also told that the safe drinking water plant installed at the premises of Yellur Grama Panchayat is benefitting nearly 2,000 villagers of Yellur and in future days, the Dalantri Lake of Yellur shall be developed.
Alva noted that 302 fishermen families have been given a grant worth Rs 3.02 crore and in future, any request from the fishermen families from Barkur to Mulki shall be given due consideration.
