New Delhi – The government will allocate Rs 3.5 lakh crores for Jal Jeevan Mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (15 Aug) said from the ramparts of the Red Fort while delivering his independence day speech.
Modi said that the Center and the states will work together to clean provide drinking water to every household.
“We need to do four times of what has been done in the last 70 years,” Modi said adding “This mission should not just be at the govt’s level. Just like Swachhta Mission this should a people’s mission.”.
The prime minister also acknowledged the ongoing water crisis in many parts of the country with half of the households having no access to drinking water. Half their day is spent in getting water, Modi said.
The PM also called on the farmers to reduce the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides to save the earth. He said he will not allow the mother earth to be degraded.
In his sixth independence day speech, Modi said that he wanted to address the issue of population explosion in the country. He said the Indian parents will have to give a serious thought to whether they will be able to fulfill their child’s dreams and aspirations and support a new life.
Emphasising on the need for family planning, PM said that a smaller a smaller family can be happier and more content.
