New Delhi – International food company Nestlé has announced a new type of paper packaging that could reduce the use of single-use plastics.

Nestlé has pledged to make all of its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025 by ‘High-Speed Flow Wrap Technology’.

Nestlé’s new packaging will be deployed with the YES! snack bars and will be available in 13 European countries.

The company’s new ‘circular Google’ strategy includes a new drive to design technology products with waste management as well as reducing waste at datacenters and offices.

The company has also begun to reduce its investments in coal power, which is a major contributor of greenhouse gas emissions.

Single-use plastic packets for food and cosmetics are one of the main contributors to plastic waste in landfills and oceans.

Around 40 per cent of all plastic produced is used for packaging, and the World Economic Forum estimates that 95 per cent of this is not recycled after its initial use.

However, simply making products recyclable is only part of the challenge, as global recycling systems are currently not sufficiently developed to be able to absorb the sheer quantity of waste that is being produced.

“Consumers are looking for more natural and sustainable options when they choose a snack, both in terms of ingredients and packaging.” Patrice Bula, Head of Strategic Business Units, Marketing and Sales at Nestlé said.

Insurers representing around 20 % of the global assets have now begun to divest from the fuel, both because of the climate impact and the risk of assets getting stranded due to changes in policy and in the economics of energy generation.

“Banks play a crucial role to educate and help investors overcome their barriers in investments for positive impact.” Didier von Daeniken, global head of private banking and wealth management at Standard Chartered said.
