MUMBAI: National Stock Exchange of India Ltd (NSE) under the aegis of Project Chunauti, is supporting rehabilitation of 105 underprivileged differently abled children in Mumbai.
The objective of the project is to rehabilitate the differently abled children through integrated and intensive counselling, education and basic life skills sessions.
NSE has been associated with Project Chunauti since more than two and a half years, and has further committed its support for another five years from 2018.
The project would offer replication of rehabilitation model in all MDC Homes across Maharashtra, New Delhi, Jharkhand, Karnataka and Kerala.
Recently, NSE was also felicitated with Pride of Maharashtra Award for CSR Innovation and its contribution towards the Chunauti Project.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Limaye MD & CEO, NSE said, “These Divyaang children are one of the most vulnerable segment, having neither family nor protection and been subject to abuse, trauma, malnutrition and neglect. The lack of support for the cause and scarcity of funds becoming a threat to Project Chunauti; we felt the need to support the project and help create systemic change in government processes, a country-wide model and rehabilitation protocol for Divyaang children in MDC Homes.”
Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is coordinating with Ministry of Social Welfare to chalk out a systematic plan of replication across the country. This replication will include training of Government officials, MDC Home staff and CWC members. All Protocols developed under the Project will be institutionalized in collaboration with the Government.
Project Chunauti is a model project currently implemented by the TISS in the MDC (Mentally Deficient Children’s) Home, Mankhurd.
Project Chunuati came into existence as a support to PIL filed by the Mumbai High court in year 2010 against the abuse and exploitation of mentally challenged orphan children in Mentally Deficient Children’s Homes in Thane and Panvel.
