Celebrate India’s 71st Independence Day on Twitter with special I-Day emoji

This is the third edition of Independence Day emoji by Twitter, previously Twitter launched an Indian flag emoji to mark the country's 69th and 70th Independence Day

NEW DELHI: As India enters its 71st year of Independence, Twitter pays homage to India’s heritage with a customized Independence Day emoji launch on August 14, 2017. The emoji is a collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs to celebrates India and the veterans on #IndependenceDayIndia, as part of the #BharatKeVeer campaign. Indians across the globe can participate in the Independence Day conversations with the emoji by using the hashtags#IndependenceDayIndia, #IndiaIndependenceDay, #IndiaAt71, #स्वतंत्रतादिवस, #bharatkeveer, #சுதந்திரதினம் or #भारतकेवीर in their Tweets from now until 18 August.

The #BharatKeVeer initiative, led by Home Minister Rajnath Singh (@rajnathsingh), pays homage to the bravehearts who laid their lives in the line of duty and seek to give back to the families of these soldiers.

As part of the collaboration on Independence Day, Twitter and the Home Ministry will also showcase select users Tweets with the hashtag #BharatKeVeer on LED screens set up at Marine Drive in Mumbai and Connaught Place in Delhi. The collaboration will drive people to contribute donations to https://bharatkeveer.gov.in/ via an auto-response notification to the hashtagged Tweets.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, “While we celebrate India’s Independence on this day, it is important to remember our martyrs who made this possible. As India advances as a digital nation, we are proud to collaborate with Twitter to drive greater awareness and engagement for the#BharatKeVeer campaign.”

Mahima Kaul, Head of Public Policy, Twitter India said, “Twitter emojis has become a medium to add value to the expression of our users, allowing them to share their experiences and views in a more meaningful and engaging manner. With a special emoji to commemorate India’s 71 years of Independence, we are thrilled to bind Indians across the world with a sense of togetherness and celebration.”

Twitter continues to celebrate Indian culture with customized Twitter emojis for Independence Day, Diwali, Republic Day, among other key milestones and events for Indians across the world. These innovative emojis are specifically designed keeping in mind the Indian culture and sentiments and are a delightful way to reinforce a sense of unity and harmony amongst Twitter users. This is the third edition of Independence Day emoji by Twitter, previously Twitter launched an Indian flag emoji to mark the country’s 69th and 70th Independence Day.
