A program designed to train growers on the responsible use of pesticides

MUMBAI: DuPont is committed to the responsible use of crop protection products. To continue strengthening its commitment to safe, responsible application of crop protection products, DuPont organized the Product Stewardship Day in association with CropLife India across the country, which saw the participation of farmers and retailers.
The program aimed at making a difference in the agricultural sector through a concerted effort of creating stewardship awareness among the community of farmers and retailers. Simultaneously, it was organized in more than 10 key states with 350 meetings in different geographies across India engaging more than 15000 farmers and 500 trade channel partners & key influencers.
DuPont observes the Product Stewardship Day twice a year and has made it an annual activity since 2013. To create awareness among farmers and retailers about the safe use of crop protection products, officials from the Agriculture Department and Medical professionals are involved in the stewardship programs. On this occasion, safety kits were distributed to farmers and through outbound calls, farmers were informed about the safe use of pesticides. Free sprayer service campaigns were organized across many locations.
Talking about the need for such a program, Ram Mudholkar, President, DuPont South Asia, said, “Crop losses in India due to pest attacks or fake pesticides is huge. The objective of the program was to educate farmers on the importance of following label recommendations to enable desired results. The right product with appropriate personal protective equipment should be used at the right time and at the correct dosage as mentioned in the label.
Products should not only protect crops, but should also be safe for applicators, for the eco-system and the end consumer. DuPont Crop Protection in India is committed to bring world-class products that help farmers prosper, contributing towards happy harvests.”
He also said “as a responsible organisation, DuPont is committed to raise awareness amongst farmers and stakeholders on the issue of counterfeit products and we will work collaboratively with authorities, industry associations and farmer organisations to curb this menace.
