MUMBAI: With India’s growing population, scarcity of water and availability of pure drinking water is fast becoming India’s major crisis. Providing drinking water to such a large population is an enormous challenge. According to urban development ministry, residents in 22 out of 32 major cities have to deal with daily shortages.
The health burden of poor water quality is enormous. According to UNICEF, India lost more than 600,000 children under 5 in 2010 due to WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) related diseases like diarrhoea and pneumonia. Studies show that 45% of India’s children are stunted and 600,000 children under five die each year, largely because of inadequate water supply and poor sanitation.
The provision for providing clean drinking water and improving public health standards has been given priority in the Constitution of India.
Wockhardt Foundation’s JalSecure programme works towards minimizing the situation of water crisis in India through water security measures. Under this program, technological interventions on state-of-the-art technologies pertaining to rain water conservation, water harvesting, ground water recharge, water quality monitoring, water treatment, and capacity building with stake holders are being extensively promoted.
Keeping in view of the emergent need for capacity building of the professionals engaged in management of water, Wockhardt Foundation along with CSR Advisors announces one-day training workshop on ‘Water Quality, Testing & Treatment Technologies’ on March 8, 2014 from 09.30 am-5.30 pm, at Wockhardt Towers, BKC, Bandra (E) Mumbai. Highly qualified water experts from renowned government, non government and academic institutions will deliver lectures at the workshop – Water Resource Minister, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and Central Ground Water Board (CGWB.
