CSR initiative brings together industry association, GIDC and Ingersoll Rand to strengthen green infrastructure in Ahmedabad’s industrial hub.
AHMEDABAD (India CSR): Ingersoll Rand, the Sanand Industries Association (SIA) and Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) have marked the beginning of the Sanand Eco Park, a proposed green community space within the GIDC Sanand industrial area. The stone-laying ceremony for the project, conceived as a corporate social responsibility initiative by Ingersoll Rand, was held on October 19. Spread across 12,000 square metres, the Eco Park is planned as a space that combines native plantations, thematic gardens, water-conservation systems and recreational facilities. The project seeks to bring greater ecological attention to an industrial cluster that has emerged as an important manufacturing destination in Gujarat. The ceremony was inaugurated by Vicente Reynal, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ingersoll Rand, and Sunil Khanduja, Chairman of Ingersoll Rand India Limited, in the presence of industry and association representatives.
Industrial Growth Balance
The proposed park reflects an attempt to bring environmental infrastructure into an area shaped by rapid industrial growth. Sanand has developed into a major industrial hub, with manufacturing activity creating employment, investment and supporting infrastructure across the region. The Eco Park is intended to add a green and recreational dimension to this development journey. Ajit Shah, President of the Sanand Industries Association, said the association is working towards a development approach that gives due importance to infrastructure, community welfare and environmental responsibility. “Sanand has grown into one of Gujarat’s most vibrant industrial hubs. SIA continues to focus on balanced development—combining infrastructure, welfare, and environmental initiatives,” Shah said. “The Eco Park is a step toward creating harmony between industry and nature.” The initiative places the idea of environmental well-being alongside the economic role of industrial zones, where quality public spaces and green cover can contribute to a more liveable ecosystem.
Collective CSR Action
The project has been developed through collaboration between SIA, Ingersoll Rand and GIDC, demonstrating how industry bodies, companies and public development agencies can work together on common environmental priorities. While individual companies often undertake CSR projects independently, a collective approach can create assets that serve a wider industrial and community ecosystem. Chetan Thakkar, Chairman of the SIA CSR Committee, said the committee aims to bring together the collective strength of industries for meaningful social and environmental action. “Our CSR Committee channels the collective strength of industries toward meaningful change,” he said. “Projects like the Eco Park enhance community life, promote green practices, and inspire sustainable models across industrial clusters.” The proposed park is therefore positioned not only as a landscaped site, but also as a shared model of industry-led environmental stewardship within a manufacturing corridor.
Native Plantations Planned
Native plantations are among the key features envisaged for the Sanand Eco Park. The selection of locally suitable plant species can help support biodiversity while ensuring that green spaces are better aligned with local climatic and ecological conditions. The project plan also includes thematic gardens, which may provide a structured setting for visitors and create opportunities for environmental learning. Water-conservation systems form another important component of the proposed park, underlining the relevance of resource-efficient design in an industrial region. Such systems can help integrate sustainability into the park’s planning and maintenance framework. Recreational spaces are also planned as part of the development, adding a community-oriented element to the project. Together, these components indicate an effort to create a functional green asset rather than a purely ornamental landscape. The project’s stated focus is on recreation, biodiversity and environmental awareness within the industrial zone.
Community Well-Being Focus
Green public spaces can play an important role in improving the quality of life around industrial clusters. They offer an opportunity for people to connect with nature, support informal recreation and encourage greater awareness of local environmental issues. The Sanand Eco Park is expected to contribute to this wider objective by creating a dedicated space where industry, workers and the surrounding community can engage with a greener environment. The initiative also highlights an evolving CSR perspective in which environmental action is increasingly linked with human well-being. Tree plantations, water conservation and thoughtfully designed public spaces can support broader goals of climate responsiveness, ecological awareness and community resilience. The project does not announce a completion timeline or financial outlay, but its design intent reflects a commitment to integrating nature into an industrial landscape. Its success will depend on implementation quality, long-term maintenance and continued participation from the stakeholders involved.
Sustainability Partnership Model
The Sanand Eco Park adds to the growing number of collaborative CSR initiatives that seek to address environmental challenges through local partnerships. Industrial development and environmental responsibility are often treated as separate agendas; however, the project seeks to bring them together in one shared space. It also reflects the potential for industry associations to convene companies around common priorities that extend beyond individual business operations. For Ingersoll Rand, the CSR initiative aligns with the company’s stated commitment to making life better for its employees, customers, shareholders and the planet. Ingersoll Rand Inc. is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol IR and provides mission-critical flow creation, life science and industrial solutions. The company says its portfolio is supported by more than 80 brands serving customers in complex industrial environments. At Sanand, its participation places environmental improvement and community well-being at the centre of a collaborative industrial initiative.
