MUMBAI: The 3Cs (Capacity, Capability and Connects) Training Workshop, organised by Samabhavana Society, initiated in full fervour in Mumbai. The two day seminar took place at YMCA, Colaba and was graced by the presence of Gayatri Subramaniam, Convener and Chief Programme Executive- National Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility, IICA, Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

Ms. Subramaniam delievered a great deal of information and clarity on CSR scope in the present scenario and spoke to each particpant one on one giving her valued rematks to every NGO. The resource persons from top companies added to the fruitful and successful execution of the seminar. The particpating NGOs, who came from different parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh gained tremendously in estabilishing the right connects through a one on one meeting with all the speakers present.

Shobha Mani, IBM India delivered a very informative session under IBM grants- Impact and explained to all participants how Not for Profits can be hugely benefitted. Her session was followed by Prerana Langa’s session on What businesses want and how to deliver. Prerana is the CEO of Yes Bank Foundation and coming from the background of a foundation she explained wonderfully to all NGOs on how to go about when approaching a corporation.

The next session on Social Audits, Reporting and Monitoring was taken by L. Rajan from State bank of India where in he presented to the participants the nitty gritties of the importance of fair trade and social audits from an NGO perspective. Vidya Jayakrishnan, Tech Mahindra spoke wonderfully connecting with each participant one on one about NGO scope in CSR partnerships and explained the scenario on both sides having an NGO background and now working for a corporation.

The first day concluded with a high tea and great spirits.

The second day of the seminar began with an informative session by Samabhavana Society in terms of the real ground scenatio, the challenges faced by grass root level NGOs and how to overcome them. Anant Nadkarni, Former Vice President, TCCI and he took the following session on Assessing Risks and partnerships on Innovative Social Projects and made it extremely interesting with real life examples from his company, Tata Power where he formerly worked.

Deepa Sapatnekar, LinkedIn India came in next and presented a very interesting session on how NGOs can use the power of social media sitting in whichever part of the country they are located and still projecting their sterling work across the country. Mr. Sen, Steel Authority of India Ltd followed next and spoke about what bjsinesses want and how an NGO can equip itself fully to meet the expectations.

NGOs from across Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh working in various sectors and with various issues had participated in the seminar and gained greatly from the sessions. All the NGOs had so much to gain from and the fact that they could actually interact with the corporations directly on a one on one basis was a stark feature of the entire seminar.

After the success in Mumbai, Samabhavana Society is now in full spirits to organise the seminar again in South Zone, Bangalore on 21st and 22nd February 2014. The presence of regional corporations like Grant Thornton LLP, Genpact, Wipro, IIM Bangalore, GE Healthcare, Propaganda India, Fidelity and many more will surely be another session of fruitful connects and capacity building for participating NGOs. The session by IICA and IBM remain a special feature again in terms of NGO consultation.
