When the lives and the rights of children are at stake, there must be no silent witnesses

MASOOM in Technex’14

IndiaCSR News Network

VARANASI:  Renowned experts and think-tank from the field of science and technology are participating in this year’s annual technical fest, ‘Technex’ of the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University which will start from March 7, 2014.

IIT Bhu Students for Masoom in the class roomSocial events have been given a lot of importance this year and students are actively participating for various cause activities and initiatives.

IndiaCSR.in (India’s Largest CSR News Network) is the media partner of the event.

The first day of ‘Technex’ will be dedicated to AIDS awareness while the concluding day will be celebrated as Women’s day as it is falling on the International Women’s Day, on March 8. Apart from this events like Envision (inspirational videos), Green X (Green technologies), Two States (planning and civil administration), Masoom (Child welfare) and Bal Vigyan (engaging the budding engineering minds) will be held under a common category of events called as PAHAL.

IIT Bhu Students for MasoomTechnex’14 is scheduled from 7th-9th March, 2014 but MASOOM started its activities throughout the country from December 2013 itself.

MASOOM
MASOOM is a national level initiative which aims to bring relief to the millions of children in our country suffering due to motley of reasons, using the most powerful and driven medium in our country- students.

It brings together various groups to bring about a change in the current dire scenario for children, fusing with it a competitive streak to achieve our aims within a given timeframe. i.e. the students form teams in their colleges to perform tasks specified by us for child upliftment in and around their own college campus.

What does it mean?
say no to child labourAn event which lasts for 3-4 months ensures that the participating institute will definitely witness the initiatives on five major domains for a long time.

Moreover we have included special tasks (*marked) which have to performed at an underdeveloped area nearby their campus. Students also have the participants to conduct a survey of the underdeveloped area they are working before they start the *marked tasks.

Everyday before the break of dawn a child wakes up to work. Every neighbourhood sees a child toiling in mundane labour, his innocent eyes dull and tired, waiting for light in their dark lives. Every city has children dreaming for more, hoping for the arrival of the shore, in their never ending battle against the battering waves of life.

The world is filled with such children suffering in silence, enduring appalling environments, mind numbing labour, colossal social pressure, barbaric actions and endless other difficulties.

Every corner of our country has a myriad of problems for children ranging from absence of health facilities, education, proper sanitation etc. to ghastly consequences of social tenets and economic restrictions. The increase in technological and economic advancements around the world has not seen a proportional increase in child welfare.

Do you know that India has over 3 million children living on the streets? Or has over 150 million children working as bonded labourers? Or one out of every six girl child does not live to see her 15th birthday? What happens when despite having a national policy for compulsory primary education, half of India’s children are illiterate in spite of possessing one of the largest networks of schools in the world?

It is high time we take initiative to liberate the children from their shackles. No more do we have the luxury of blaming the system or postponing our actions. The time to take collective as well as individual responsibility to remedy the present situation is here.

Mohit Kabra and Vikram Pragadeesh, who are heading the initiative said,” We need to rise to bring a sea of change for the future of our world. As a first step towards this, we have started- MASOOM a national level initiative which aims to bring relief to the millions of suffering children in our country, using the most powerful and driven medium in our country- students. “

“ It brings together various student groups from throughout the country to bring about a change in the current dire scenario for children, fusing with it a competitive streak to achieve our aims within a given timeframe. I.e. the students form teams in their colleges to perform tasks specified by us for child upliftment in and around their own college campus.” , he added.

MASOOM, through its set of tasks, gives a short term incentive for a long term gain.

The tasks are classified into the following broad domains:
Education
Health and Nutrition
Social Influence and Abuse
Child Labour

Join to bring about a monumental change in the nation for we believe that,

“When the lives and the rights of children are at stake, there must be no silent witnesses.”
