Distributes 50 bicycles to underprivileged girl students and 50 sewing machines to women from economically weaker sections
Sri Vijaya Puram (India CSR): Bank of Baroda, India’s leading International Bank, organised a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in Sri Vijaya Puram (formerly Port Blair), to promote girl child education and support livelihood creation for women from economically weaker sections. As part of the initiative, the Bank distributed 50 bicycles to underprivileged girl students to facilitate their commute to school. It also provided 50 sewing machines to women from economically weaker sections to help them pursue income-generating opportunities and strengthen their financial independence.
The Bank also conducted a Self-Help Group Finance Camp to facilitate access to affordable formal credit for SHGs. The initiative seeks to bring more women into the formal banking system and support grassroots entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Debadatta Chand, Managing Director & CEO, Bank of Baroda, said, “At Bank of Baroda, we believe financial inclusion is about creating opportunities for people to build secure and independent lives. By supporting the education of girl students, enabling livelihood opportunities for women and facilitating affordable credit for Self-Help Groups, we aim to strengthen empowerment at the grassroots. These initiatives reflect our commitment to inclusive growth and to partnering with communities in keeping with our ethos of ‘Leading with Trust’.”
The programme was attended by K. R. Kagadal, General Manager and Zonal Head, Kolkata Zone; R. K. Goel, General Manager from the Corporate Office and Tapan Sinha, Regional Head, Greater Kolkata Region along with other senior officials and staff members of the Bank.
Through these initiatives, Bank of Baroda continues to contribute to the socio-economic development of local communities by improving access to education, financial services and sustainable livelihood opportunities, the bank said.
Bank of Baroda opened its first branch in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands in January 1996 and has since established a network of four branches and two ATMs across the Islands, with total business of approximately Rs. 435 crore. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands form part of the Bank’s Kolkata Zone, under which Bank of Baroda currently operates 265 branches. The Bank remains committed to supporting Government-sponsored schemes and advancing financial inclusion initiatives, while continuing to serve the banking needs of customers across the region.
