MUMBAI: Speaker of the Year – A Global Youth Forum by leading child rights NGO, CRY- Child Rights and You and Maverik Ventures is an initiative that was started to promote the ideas of Young India has now fostered thousands of young guns of India with millions of revolutionary ideas that ensures the creation of a better world.
The aim of the forum is “Inclusive Growth” as its mission is to bring together the students from different backgrounds (N.G.Os, Public Schools, Private Schools, and Government Schools) together and participate on a common platform to voice their opinions on the theme of that particular year.
The forum generates awareness amongst the youngest building block of our country and bridges the gap which exists in our society amongst children, by giving them an ecosystem to spend time together as learners, competitors and winners.
The theme for Speaker of the Year- Global Youth Forum 2014 was “Child Rights” and the six month long campaign across six states of the country, got completed on 5th January at National Science Centre, Delhi. It was a joint effort of team of Maverik Ventures and CRY volunteers who took this event to the remotest parts of India and encourage students to speak out their mind. There were approximately 10000 registrations for the event out of which best 150 students were shortlisted and were invited for the finale.
The finale saw students from the states of Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab, representing the qualifying schools like Adarsh Prathmik Vidyalaya – Noida, SDMC Primary School – Aligaon, Ryan International School, GD Goenka School, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Public School, Vishal Bharti Public School and students from various CRY learning centres and partner centres like Saksham.
The forum was graced by the Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, 2012 London Olympics Bronze Medallist who shared his journey. He emphasised upon the importance of hardwork and passion to achieve dreams.
Judges were amazed to hear creative ideas from these children regarding ways of implementing and creating awareness of about child rights. They spoke on multiple topics like right to education, right to healthcare, right to food and right to survival etc.
The best students were rightly adjudged as the Speaker of The Year 2014 and were felicitated with internship with CRY and goodies like Zync tablet computers, Shopclues shopping vouchers and Lohia auto electric bikes.
