Project that will generate 200 million units of clean power annually and reduce over 1.4 lakh tons of CO₂ emissions.

BENGALURU (India CSR): Tata Motors Limited has partnered with Welspun Renewable Energy Private Limited to develop an 86 MW wind-solar hybrid renewable energy project, marking a significant step in the company’s clean energy transition and sustainable manufacturing journey.

The project is expected to generate around 200 million units of clean electricity annually, helping offset more than 1.4 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year. The renewable power generated from the project will be supplied to four Tata Motors manufacturing plants located in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka.

The project will be developed through a co-investment model and a long-term Power Purchase Agreement. It will provide a reliable supply of green energy to Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle manufacturing facilities, supporting cleaner and more energy-efficient operations.

Supporting RE100 and Net-Zero Goals

The initiative will contribute to Tata Motors’ RE100 target by 2030 and strengthen its broader ambition to achieve net-zero emissions. By integrating renewable energy into its manufacturing operations, Tata Motors aims to reduce its dependence on conventional energy sources and accelerate decarbonisation across its production footprint.

The wind-solar hybrid model is expected to improve energy reliability by combining two renewable sources. This will help ensure more consistent clean power availability for the company’s key manufacturing plants.

Greener Commercial Vehicle Manufacturing

For Tata Motors, the partnership reflects a larger shift toward responsible manufacturing. As India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, the company is working to align its operations with climate-resilient growth and low-carbon production practices.

Vishal Badshah, Vice President – Operations, Tata Motors Limited, said the project reflects the company’s continued focus on building greener and more energy-efficient manufacturing operations. He said the integrated wind-solar hybrid solution will help secure reliable renewable energy for key commercial vehicle manufacturing facilities while reducing carbon emissions on a sustained basis.

He added that such collaborations are critical as Tata Motors progresses towards fulfilling its RE100 commitment and net-zero aspirations.

Partnership for Industrial Decarbonisation

Welspun Renewable Energy said the partnership is a milestone in its clean energy journey. Kapil Maheshwari, MD and CEO, Welspun Renewable Energy Private Limited, said the agreement is not merely a PPA but a model for how large Indian manufacturers can decarbonise and achieve their net-zero and sustainability goals.

He said Welspun New Energy remains committed to building resilient and future-ready renewable energy infrastructure for utilities as well as commercial and industrial consumers.

Clean Energy for Sustainable Growth

The Tata Motors-Welspun partnership highlights the growing role of renewable energy in India’s industrial decarbonisation journey. Large manufacturing companies are increasingly turning to long-term clean power agreements to reduce emissions, improve energy security and meet sustainability commitments.

The 86 MW wind-solar hybrid project is expected to strengthen Tata Motors’ renewable energy portfolio while contributing to India’s wider clean energy transition.
