SAIL-BSP’s CSR initiative delivers cultural stage, borewell and hand pumps to strengthen rural infrastructure and community welfare in Ghughsidih village

RAIPUR/BHILAI (India CSR): In a significant step towards strengthening rural infrastructure and community welfare, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL)–Bhilai Steel Plant formally handed over key development assets to Gram Panchayat Ghughsidih on April 7, 2026.

Admissions Open for BBA in CSR, Sustainability and ESG

The assets were developed under the CSR initiatives of Bhilai Steel Plant and included the construction of a cultural stage, borewell drilling, and installation of hand pumps. These works are aimed at improving village-level infrastructure, supporting community activities, and ensuring better access to essential water resources.

The formal handover ceremony was held in the presence of Panchayat representatives, villagers, and officials from the CSR Department of Bhilai Steel Plant. A certificate of handover was presented to Smt. Lalita Barle, Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Ghughsidih, marking the completion and transfer of the assets to the local community.

CSR Assets Dedicated to the Village Community

The projects handed over to the Panchayat represent practical and need-based interventions for rural development. The construction of the cultural stage, locally known as Kala Manch, is expected to provide a dedicated space for social, cultural, educational, and community events.

In many rural communities, such platforms serve as important public spaces. They are used for village meetings, awareness programmes, cultural celebrations, school activities, social gatherings, and public discussions. The availability of a proper cultural stage can help strengthen community participation and preserve local traditions.

Along with the cultural stage, the drilling of a borewell and installation of hand pumps are expected to address the water-related needs of the village. Access to water remains one of the most important requirements for rural households. By creating water infrastructure, Bhilai Steel Plant’s CSR Department has contributed to improving basic amenities in the village.

These assets are expected to directly benefit villagers by reducing inconvenience and supporting daily life. The projects also reflect the company’s effort to respond to local development priorities through its CSR outreach.

Formal Handover to Gram Panchayat Ghughsidih

During the programme, the completed CSR assets were formally handed over to Gram Panchayat Ghughsidih. Smt. Lalita Barle, Sarpanch of the Panchayat, received the handover certificate on behalf of the village.

The handover of assets to the Panchayat is an important step in community ownership. Once development works are completed, their proper use, upkeep, and long-term sustainability depend greatly on local participation. By transferring the assets to the Panchayat, the CSR Department has ensured that the village institution remains at the centre of their management and future use.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of villagers, showing the community’s interest in the projects. Panchayat representatives and local residents expressed appreciation for the support extended by Bhilai Steel Plant.

Manoj Kumar Dubey Highlights Stronger Bonds with Peripheral Villages

Manoj Kumar Dubey, General Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Bhilai Steel Plant, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he underlined the strengthening relationship between the CSR Department and villages located in the plant’s peripheral areas.

He said that Bhilai Steel Plant remains committed to supporting holistic rural development. He also assured continued support for future initiatives in Gram Panchayat Ghughsidih in line with emerging local needs.

His remarks reflected the larger CSR vision of Bhilai Steel Plant, which goes beyond one-time infrastructure creation. The focus is on building a lasting relationship with communities and contributing to their overall development.

For industrial organisations, CSR plays a vital role in building trust with surrounding communities. Bhilai Steel Plant’s continued engagement with villages such as Ghughsidih shows its commitment to inclusive growth and responsible corporate citizenship.

K.K. Verma Encourages Villagers to Use CSR Schemes

Shri K.K. Verma, Deputy Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, was present as the Guest of Honour. Speaking on the occasion, he shared details about various welfare schemes and assistance programmes being implemented under the CSR initiatives of Bhilai Steel Plant.

He encouraged villagers to actively avail themselves of these schemes so that the benefits reach more families and improve their quality of life.

His address highlighted an important aspect of CSR implementation. Development schemes become more effective when communities are aware of them and participate actively. Information sharing, local involvement, and regular communication between CSR teams and villagers can help ensure that schemes are used properly.

Shri Verma’s appeal to villagers was aimed at encouraging stronger participation and awareness. It also showed the CSR Department’s willingness to work closely with rural communities.

Community Participation Marks the Programme

The programme witnessed participation from departmental staff, Panchayat representatives, and villagers. Shri Budhelal and other departmental staff members were present during the event.

The programme was conducted by Shri Govardhan, former Sarpanch of the village. He expressed gratitude towards the CSR Department of Bhilai Steel Plant for its continued support to rural development and community welfare.

His words reflected the appreciation of the local community for the infrastructure works completed in the village. Such participation from former and present Panchayat representatives also shows continuity in local leadership and community engagement.

The presence of villagers in large numbers gave the programme a strong community character. It was not merely an official handover event, but a public acknowledgement of development work carried out for the village.

Rural Infrastructure as a Pillar of CSR

The handing over of the cultural stage, borewell, and hand pumps highlights the importance of rural infrastructure in CSR planning. In villages, even small but meaningful infrastructure works can create lasting social value.

A cultural stage can become a centre for social interaction. It can support cultural identity, local leadership, and awareness campaigns. Similarly, water infrastructure can provide immediate relief to villagers and improve daily living conditions.

For rural communities, access to common facilities is closely linked with dignity, participation, and social development. When CSR projects are designed around local needs, they can create visible and measurable benefits.

Bhilai Steel Plant’s intervention in Ghughsidih Panchayat reflects this need-based approach. The projects are simple, practical, and directly connected to village life.

Bhilai Steel Plant’s Continued CSR Engagement

Bhilai Steel Plant has been known for its long-standing connection with the region. As one of the major industrial units of SAIL, the plant has a significant social and economic presence in Chhattisgarh.

Its CSR initiatives are aimed at supporting communities in peripheral areas through development works, welfare programmes, infrastructure support, and social interventions. The handover of assets in Ghughsidih adds another example to its rural development efforts.

Through such initiatives, the CSR Department seeks to address local challenges and support the aspirations of rural communities. The focus on water access, public infrastructure, and community spaces reflects the broader objective of improving quality of life.

Strengthening Corporate-Community Relations

The programme at Ghughsidih also carried a wider message. It showed how corporate institutions and village communities can work together for local development.

CSR is most effective when it is built on dialogue, trust, and local participation. The presence of company officials, Panchayat leaders, and villagers at the handover ceremony demonstrated this collaborative approach.

By assuring continued support, Bhilai Steel Plant has also indicated that its relationship with Ghughsidih Panchayat will continue beyond the completion of these projects. Future initiatives may be shaped by the evolving needs of the village and the priorities identified by the community.

A Step Towards Holistic Rural Development

The handing over of CSR assets to Gram Panchayat Ghughsidih is a meaningful step in Bhilai Steel Plant’s rural development journey. The assets will support cultural activities, improve public infrastructure, and contribute to better access to water.

The initiative also reinforces the role of CSR in bridging development gaps in rural areas. When companies invest in local infrastructure, they help build stronger and more resilient communities.

For Ghughsidih, the newly handed-over assets represent both utility and opportunity. They will serve daily needs while also creating space for collective activities and community growth.
