Vedanta Power disburses full compensation to the deceased and injured workers’ families after the Singhitarai plant incident.

Singhitarai, Chhattisgarh (India CSR): Vedanta Power has completed the disbursement of full compensation to the families of all the deceased and those injured following the tragic incident at Unit-1 of its plant in Singhitarai, Chhattisgarh, while reiterating its continued commitment to standing by those affected, the company said.

The boiler-related incident, which occurred last week, resulted in the release of pressurised hot water and steam. The unit was being entirely operated and maintained by the company’s Operation & Maintenance Contractor, NGSL (NTPC GE Power Services Limited), a joint venture of NTPC and GE. Thirty-five workers from the contractor and sub-contractor were present in the area at the time.

The company said that it remains closely engaged with the families of the deceased and those injured, ensuring continued medical care and on-ground support, during this period. Comprehensive support measures have been initiated for affected families. These include financial assistance of Rs. 35 lakh along with exploring possibilities of employment support for families of the deceased. For those injured, Rs. 15 lakh has been provided. All of this support has already been disbursed to the 35 affected individuals and families.

In addition, it will extend skill development opportunities to family members through its Vedanta-run skill centres, helping enhance their employability, the leading power company said.

While expressing sorrow over the incident, Rajinder Singh Ahuja, CEO of Vedanta Power, stated, ‘We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives in this tragic incident.
