MUMBAI (India CSR): Informa Markets in India, India’s leading B2B exhibitions organiser, has made a Rs 50 lakh CSR donation in the form of critical diagnostic equipment, aimed at strengthening public healthcare diagnostics in Mumbai. The initiative is expected to generate cumulative annual savings of over Rs 100 crore for underserved patients by significantly reducing the cost of critical diagnostic tests. The programme demonstrates how strategic infrastructure investment can create exponential social impact.

As part of the initiative, Informa Markets in India donated a chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) analyzer to Dr. R. N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital, also known as Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray (HBT) Medical College & Hospital, a major tertiary care government hospital serving Mumbai’s western suburbs.

The CSR programme was implemented in partnership with Child Help Foundation, a pan-India, child-centric NGO with a strong on-ground presence and a focus on health, education, nutrition, and community-based interventions.

Transforming Access to High-Quality Diagnostics

The CLIA analyzer is a highly sensitive, automated diagnostic system used to detect low-concentration analytes such as hormones, tumour markers, infectious disease indicators, and reproductive health markers. It offers high accuracy (CV <8%), rapid turnaround time, and high throughput—making it particularly suitable for high-volume public hospitals.

In private laboratories, CLIA-based tests typically cost between ₹1,200 and ₹2,500 per test. With the new equipment in place, Dr. R. N. Cooper Hospital can offer the same tests at ₹150–₹200 per test, representing an 85-90% cost reduction for patients.

Based on estimated patient volumes, the initiative is projected to result in ₹120–₹240 crore in annual cost savings for underserved communities. This positions the ₹50 lakh CSR investment as a high-impact intervention with significant social return on investment.

Strengthening Public Healthcare Infrastructure

Dr. R. N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital is a major tertiary care facility operated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). It serves as a key emergency, trauma, and referral hospital for the Juhu–Vile Parle region and functions as a teaching hospital under HBT Medical College.

The hospital offers multi-specialty care across departments including General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Psychiatry, Pulmonary Medicine, and more, supported by specialised units such as a NICU, blood bank, burns ward, and diagnostic services.

The addition of the CLIA analyzer is expected to reduce diagnostic wait times, improve clinical decision-making, and enable earlier intervention for patients who may otherwise defer or forgo testing due to cost constraints.

Strategic CSR for Sustainable Impact

This initiative exemplifies Informa Markets India’s strategic approach to CSR – creating multiplier effects through infrastructure investment rather than temporary interventions.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, Informa Markets in India, said, “We believe CSR is most meaningful when it strengthens systems rather than addresses symptoms. By investing in diagnostic infrastructure within a public hospital, we are helping reduce the cost barrier at the very first point of care—testing—so that timely treatment becomes possible for thousands of patients every year. This is the kind of long-term, multiplier-effect impact we aim to create.”

As an organisation, Informa Markets in India has always tried to create an impact where the seeds sown today create a huge impact on our tomorrows. Often related to the sectors we serve, our endeavours are invariably linked to children’s health, education, and their capacity to flourish with encouragement and the right environment,” he added.

Measurable Impact:

  • Cost Reduction: 85-90% savings on diagnostic tests for patients
  • Accessibility: Tests now available at Rs 150-200 vs. Rs 1,200-2,500 in private labs
  • Quality: High-precision testing with <8% coefficient of variation
  •  Sustainability: Long-term infrastructure enhancement for continued community benefit
