Landmark decision aims to strengthen higher education, innovation, and healthcare infrastructure in the state
RAIPUR (India CSR): In a significant move to strengthen Chhattisgarh’s education and innovation ecosystem, the state cabinet has approved the allotment of nearly 40 acres of land in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar for a campus of the prestigious Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS). The decision, taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, reflects the government’s broader vision to position the new capital region as a hub for knowledge, technology, and inclusive development.
The cabinet meeting also cleared key proposals related to information technology entrepreneurship, healthcare diagnostics, and the excise policy for the financial year 2026–27, underlining a multi-sectoral push for long-term growth.
NMIMS Campus to Come Up in Sector-18, Nava Raipur
According to officials, the cabinet approved the allotment of around 40 acres of land in Sector-18 of Nava Raipur Atal Nagar on a 90-year lease to Mumbai-based Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM). The land will be used to establish a full-fledged NMIMS campus, offering world-class management and professional education in the state.
The upcoming campus is expected to significantly improve access to quality higher education for students from Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states, reducing the need for migration to metropolitan cities for management studies.
About SVKM and NMIMS
Founded in 1934, Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal is one of India’s most respected educational trusts. It currently operates around 30 educational institutions across the country, catering to more than one lakh students annually, from pre-primary education to doctoral and professional programmes.
Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, one of SVKM’s flagship institutions, has consistently featured among India’s top universities. In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) University Rankings 2025, NMIMS secured the 52nd position, reaffirming its national standing. The entry of such an institution is expected to elevate Chhattisgarh’s academic profile and attract talent, faculty, and research opportunities to the state.
New IT Entrepreneurship Centres Approved
In another major decision, the cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) to establish four new entrepreneurship centres in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar. These centres aim to strengthen the IT and IT-enabled services (IT/ITeS) sector and nurture a robust startup ecosystem in the state.
STPI currently operates 68 centres across India, with a strong presence in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. In collaboration with the Chhattisgarh Department of Electronics and Information Technology, STPI plans to promote 133 domain-specific startups over the next three to five years. The focus areas will include Artificial Intelligence, MedTech, Smart Cities, and Smart Agriculture.
Support for Hardware Startups and MSMEs
As part of the initiative, an Electronics System Design and Development (ESDM) centre will also be established through STPI. This centre will support students, entrepreneurs, researchers, and industries in developing electronic product prototypes. Officials said it would provide assistance to around 30–40 hardware startups and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) every year, strengthening indigenous innovation and manufacturing capabilities.
Cabinet Clears Healthcare and Excise Policy Measures
The cabinet also took important decisions to improve healthcare services across Chhattisgarh. Measures were approved to ensure the availability of quality diagnostic facilities in all government health institutions. This includes strengthening laboratory operations at district hospitals, community health centres, and primary health centres, and expanding the range of diagnostic tests as per prescribed standards.
Additionally, the cabinet approved the Chhattisgarh Excise Policy for the financial year 2026–27 and authorised the concerned department to complete all related procedures.
