Driven by the Palava City Management Association (PCMA), the city has implemented a robust water strategy built on the principles of conserve, preserve and rejuvenate— ensuring efficient water use, a reliable 24×7 water supply for its residents while maintaining long-term ecological balance.
Efficient Water Consumption
Palava’s performance also stands out in terms of efficiency and sustainability. The city maintains per capita freshwater consumption at just 105 litres per person per day, well below the urban average. The integration of modern technologies ensures clean and safe water reaches every household while minimising loss and waste.
Smart Conservation Measures
Every effort is made to conserve water at Palava through a range of interventions—low- flow fixtures, pressure-reducing valves, a robust distribution network, widespread metering, and timely, diligent maintenance by the dedicated PCMA team. These measures have helped limit water losses to a fraction of what is typically seen in Mumbai, Thane, or other large urban areas. Most importantly, it is the residents of Palava who play the biggest role by using water responsibly, supported by PCMA’s ongoing outreach and awareness programs.
Wastewater Recycling Commitment
At the heart of Palava’s water story is also its unwavering commitment to 100% wastewater recycling. Advanced technology at its in-house water treatment plants allows for complete treatment and reuse of wastewater for irrigation and other non- potable applications, significantly reducing the city’s dependence on fresh water sources. This not only helps preserve every usable drop, but also ensures that no untreated discharge contaminates natural water bodies or groundwater reserves.
Rainwater Harvesting Impact
This is complemented by an extensive rainwater harvesting setup that collects and stores monsoon rainwater, enabling groundwater recharge, rejuvenating the ground hydrology and also supporting year-round usage of stored water.
Quarry Water Strategy
Palava’s forward-thinking approach is further demonstrated through the strategic use of existing quarries as reservoirs, and deployment of rainwater treatment facilities. These assets not only retain water during the monsoon but also provide a crucial buffer during supply outages and bolster the city’s resilience against demand surges and supply fluctuations.
Resilience During Outages
Crucially, Palava has demonstrated its ability to deliver seamless water supply even during extended outages and delays. Recent disruptions affecting the wider region had little to no impact on Palava residents, thanks to proactive planning and the technical preparedness of the Lodha and PCMA teams. More than 100 million litres of quarry water were successfully treated through in-house Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) during last six months, allowing the city to manage outages lasting over 48 hours without compromising resident access to water. As a result of these efforts, residents were spared the inconvenience and cost of procuring external tankers, collectively saving an estimated ₹2.5 crores.
