GOA (India CSR): RBL Bank, a prominent private sector bank in India, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting girl child education through its CSR initiative, UMEED. As part of this ongoing program, the Bank distributed 200 bicycles to underprivileged girls in Goa, helping them overcome a significant barrier to education—long commutes to school.
Since its inception in 2023, UMEED has distributed 4,835 bicycles and school kits across India, empowering thousands of children to pursue their education uninterrupted. This year, RBL Bank plans to distribute over 1,800 bicycles and school kits, further extending its support to cities nationwide.
Addressing the School Dropout Challenge
Long distances to school remain one of the primary reasons for school dropouts among girls, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. The UMEED initiative offers a simple yet impactful solution by providing reliable transportation. By ensuring that students can travel to school efficiently, the initiative aims to reduce dropout rates and improve educational outcomes.
The bicycle distribution event was held at Ravindra Bhavan in Sanquelim, Goa, in the presence of prominent dignitaries, including Goa’s Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant. Other attendees included Shri Shailesh Zingde, Director of Education, Shri Vijay B. Saxena, Director (DPSE) and Joint CEO of the Goa CSR Authority, alongside senior officials from RBL Bank.
