Odisha CM Launches Odisha Yatri App for Seamless Transport and Driver Empowerment

BHUBANESWAR, ODISHA (India CSR): In a groundbreaking step towards redefining public transportation, the Honourable Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, launched the Odisha Yatri app on January 6, 2025. This integrated mobility platform aims to create a commuter-friendly experience while empowering drivers with a zero-commission model that guarantees full earnings without deductions. A collaborative effort between the Government of Odisha, Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC), Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), and Moving Tech (parent company of Namma Yatri), the app is now live on the ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) network.

Key Highlights of the Odisha Yatri Launch

Chief Minister’s Vision

During the launch, CM Shri Mohan Charan Majhi dedicated the Odisha Yatri app to the people of Odisha, encouraging them to use it extensively in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. He remarked:
“This is Odisha’s own ride-booking platform, connecting drivers directly with passengers. It ensures fair fares, enhanced safety, and improved livelihoods for drivers.”

Honouring Contributions and Partnerships

  • T-Shirt Presentation: The CM was presented with an honorary Odisha Yatri T-shirt by Mr. Thirumala Naik, Managing Director of CRUT, which owns and operates the app.
  • Driver Felicitation: Top-performing drivers using the platform were felicitated by the CM for their dedication and early adoption of the app. Drivers expressed their gratitude, highlighting how direct payments and zero commission would significantly improve their earnings and overall quality of life.

The Odisha Yatri app’s current services will soon be expanded to include:

  • Public Transport Booking: Enabling reservations for buses and other public transit.
  • Real-Time Tracking: Offering precise updates on vehicle locations to enhance travel planning.
  • Tourist Site Ticketing: Integrating ticket purchases for popular tourist destinations within the app.

These upgrades are expected to coincide with major events like Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025 in Bhubaneswar, ensuring a comprehensive and user-friendly experience for residents and visitors.

Odisha Yatri stands out as more than just a ride-booking app; it represents a shift towards inclusive, sustainable, and service provider-centric mobility. The platform prioritizes:

  • Empowering Drivers: By ensuring full payments, it enhances driver livelihoods and eliminates exploitative commission structures.
  • Commuter Convenience: With a user-friendly interface and affordable pricing, it improves the overall travel experience.
  • Safety First: By collaborating with law enforcement agencies, the app ensures secure commutes for all.

Community Partnerships and Technology Integration

The partnership with Moving Tech, the parent company of Namma Yatri, ensures that Odisha Yatri benefits from innovative digital solutions and best practices in mobility management. By leveraging the ONDC platform, the app supports open-access technology, fostering a more inclusive digital ecosystem.
