NEW DELHI (India CSR): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that the state government will not accept a Rs 100 crore donation from the Adani Group for the establishment of the ‘Young India Skill University.’ The decision, according to the Chief Minister, was made to avoid unnecessary debates and controversies that could affect the government’s image and priorities.

Why the Donation Was Rejected

Avoiding Unnecessary Controversies

Speaking at a press conference, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized that accepting the donation might lead to unwarranted discussions about the state government’s alignment with the Adani Group. He said, “We do not want any decision to be misconstrued as favoring the government or the Chief Minister personally.”

No Donations Accepted Yet

The Chief Minister also clarified that the Telangana government has not accepted any donations from Adani Group or any other organization to date. He reiterated the government’s intent to stay away from any situation that could lead to public skepticism or controversy.

Official Letter to Adani Group

Clear Communication from the Government

The Telangana government, through its official Jayesh Ranjan, has written a formal letter to the Adani Group, informing them about the decision. The letter explicitly states that the state will not accept the ₹100 crore donation.

Request to Withhold Transfer of Funds

In the letter, the government requested the Adani Foundation not to proceed with the transfer of the donation to the university. “Given the current circumstances and ongoing controversies, we are not in a position to accept this generous donation,” the letter stated.

Emphasis on Transparency and Clean Governance

Commitment to a Transparent Administration

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted that this decision aligns with the government’s commitment to maintaining transparency and a clean administrative image. He explained, “Our government aims to focus on development without being entangled in unnecessary controversies.”

Prioritizing Public Interest

The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government is dedicated to initiatives that serve the public interest. He said, “Our responsibility is to ensure that the government’s decisions are free from doubts and remain focused on the welfare of the people.”
