Sources confirm that authorities have initiated action in five land purchase cases in Ranikhet tehsil, where approximately 50 nali of land was acquired illegally. Investigations are also underway in Almora district, where administrative probes have uncovered violations in Pleasant Valley and Kataramal, both located in Majkhali.
These findings have prompted a statewide inquiry into land acquisitions, with officials underlining the need for stricter regulations. “Currently, 11 cases are in court, while 10 are being investigated,” said a government source.

Bajpayee’s land purchase in Kapkot village, Lamgada Tehsil, is at the centre of the controversy. The acquisition, made in 2021, allegedly exceeds the state’s legal limit of 1.25 nali for individual land ownership.
