GURGAON (India CSR): The Mosaic Company Foundation, in collaboration with the S M Sehgal Foundation, hosted its ninth annual awards ceremony on October 24, 2024, in Gurgaon, India. The event celebrated innovative research in plant nutrition, honoring scientists who are contributing significantly to sustainable agriculture and balanced crop nutrition practices. The awards emphasized the importance of crop nutrient balance, particularly the use of potash, sulfur, and zinc, in promoting agricultural productivity across India.
Acknowledging Excellence: Mosaic Company Foundation Awards for Plant Nutrition Research
The Mosaic Company Foundation recognized individuals making groundbreaking contributions in the field of plant nutrition. The two main awards presented were the Outstanding Doctoral Research Award and the Young Scientist Award. These awards encourage exceptional ability, originality, and dedication to advancing scientific understanding of plant nutrition. They also strengthen connections within the scientific community focused on sustainable agricultural practices.
Celebrating Innovators in Agriculture
The Young Scientist Award this year was jointly awarded to Dr. Gopal Ramdas Mahajan and Dr. Jayanta Layek for their pioneering work in plant nutrition research, marked by a commitment to innovative and balanced nutrient use practices. The Outstanding Doctoral Research Award honored Dr. Swayambhu Ghosh and, in a special category for women, Dr. Mohsina Anjum, acknowledging their significant contributions to agricultural science. Each honoree received a certificate, a gold medal, a blazer, and a monetary award as part of the recognition.

Leaders in the Field Share Insights
Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Chairman of the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB), New Delhi, attended as the Chief Guest, commending The Mosaic Company Foundation for its ongoing support of research in plant nutrition. “This initiative fosters a sustainable approach to agriculture by promoting responsible nutrient practices among scientists and researchers,” he highlighted.
Keynote speeches were delivered by Benjamin Pratt, Vice President of Government & Public Affairs at The Mosaic Company, and Dr. J. C. Katyal, Former Vice Chancellor of HAU, Hisar, both emphasizing the importance of research in addressing global food security. Floris Bielders, Vice President, Commercial, Biosciences Product Management at The Mosaic Company, emphasized, “Balanced crop nutrition is essential for sustainable agriculture, which directly impacts food security on a global scale.”

Robin Edwin, Managing Director of Mosaic India Pvt. Ltd., expressed pride in recognizing the efforts of India’s agricultural scientists. “It is an honor for Mosaic to recognize scientists who have made outstanding contributions to plant nutrition,” he remarked. “These awards reinforce our commitment to fostering sustainable food security globally and protecting essential resources like water.” He commended the jury for their rigorous selection process in identifying top researchers.

S M Sehgal Foundation’s Partnership for Rural Development
Introducing the S M Sehgal Foundation at the event, Trustee and CEO Anjali Makhija shared insights into the organization’s ongoing partnership with Mosaic. Their joint initiative, ‘Krishi Jyoti’, aims to uplift rural communities, impacting 274 villages across five Indian states. “These awards exemplify the shared dedication of Mosaic and the S M Sehgal Foundation to advancing agricultural development and supporting India’s rural economy,” Makhija noted.

The ceremony was attended by a prominent audience from India’s agricultural research and policy circles, including representatives from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), and the Indian Institute of Soil Science. Also in attendance were officials from national and international organizations, such as the Fertilizer Association of India, International Zinc Association, IPNI, and CIMMYT, underlining the broad support for advancing balanced crop nutrition and sustainable agricultural practices.
