What to Do if You Miss Your Two Wheeler Insurance Renewal Date?
Share Share Share Share

As we know, two-wheeler insurance is mandatory to ride a two-wheeler in India; it is crucial to avoid hefty fines and stay financially protected. Hence, you must renew your two-wheeler insurance upon its expiry to enjoy the financial coverage benefits and ride legally.

However, there may be certain scenarios when you miss the renewal date of your two-wheeler insurance. In this blog, we will discuss what you can do when you miss the two-wheeler insurance renewal date.

What Happens When You Skip Two-Wheeler Insurance Renewal Date?

When you do not renew your two-wheeler insurance on its renewal date, the insurance company does not offer any financial coverage. However, the insurance company provides a grace period of 90 days, where you can opt for a two wheeler insurance renewal and retain the benefits, like a no-claim bonus.

Once the 90-day grace period is over and you have not renewed your plan, the insurance company will not offer you any benefits, and you cannot file an insurance claim. It also leads to losing the accumulated no-claim benefits, which amounts to a 50% discount on two-wheeler insurance renewal. Hence, in such a scenario, you have to get a new two-wheeler insurance with no benefits for a specific timeframe.

How to Renew Your Two-Wheeler Insurance After Missing its Renewal Date?

You can easily renew your expired two-wheeler insurance plan using the following modes:

  • Online Mode

One of the easiest and most convenient ways of renewing your expired two-wheeler insurance after missing its renewal date is via online mode. You can follow this simple guide to renew the plan in a few seconds:

Step 1: Visit the official website of your insurance provider and log in to your account

Step 2: Select the ‘Renewal’ option and choose the plan that aligns with your insurance requirements.

Step 3: Check the Insured Declared Value of the two-wheeler and make changes accordingly.

Step 4: After selecting the plan, you can make the payment via online mode.

Step 5: Once the payment is done, you will receive the policy details in your registered email address.

Please check the policy details to verify the information. If you notice any discrepancies, you can contact the insurance company and make changes accordingly.

  • Offline Mode

In the offline mode of renewing your two-wheeler insurance after missing its renewal date, you must visit the nearest branch of your insurance provider. In addition, you must carry the vehicle and the policy documents along with you during the visit. After that, you must request the executive to renew your policy, and they will initiate the process. However, the executive will inspect your two-wheeler since you have missed your renewal date.

How Can You Check the Two-Wheeler Insurance Expiry Date Online?

You can follow these simple steps to check the expiry date of your two-wheeler insurance online:

Step 1: Visit the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

Step 2: Select the ‘Know Your Vehicle Details’ from the ‘Informational Services’ menu present in the menu bar.

Step 3: Enter your mobile number and the verification code to proceed.

Step 4: Provide your vehicle number and click the ‘Search Vehicle’ option to look for the insurance validity.

Step 5: It will redirect you to another webpage, where you can check the expiry date of your two-wheeler insurance and other details.

How to Prevent Missing the Expiry Date of Two-Wheeler Insurance?

Here are a few tips you can follow to avoid missing the expiry date of your two-wheeler insurance:

  1. One of the prominent ways to avoid missing your two-wheeler insurance expiry date is to renew it before its expiry. In this way, you will not miss the renewal date and continue enjoying the benefits.
  2. Usually, insurance companies, like ACKO Insurance, send reminders to you through SMS alerts and emails before the expiry date. It helps you to take timely action to avoid missing the renewal date.
  3. Another way of avoiding the renewal date of your two-wheeler insurance plan is by purchasing a long-term two-wheeler insurance policy. For instance, you can opt for a 5-year term period two-wheeler insurance, so you do not have to worry about annual renewals.

Final Words

Henceforth, two-wheeler insurance is mandatory to ride a two-wheeler in India and stay financially protected. If your two-wheeler insurance has expired and you have missed its renewal date, the insurance company offers you a 90-day grace period to renew the plan. However, missing the 90-day grace period may lead to buying a new two-wheeler insurance with zero benefits initially.
