NEW DELHI (India CSR): The State Bank of India (SBI) has consistently played a pivotal role in enhancing community welfare through its diverse Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. During the fiscal year 2024, the bank strategically focused on various sectors including healthcare, education, environment, and heritage protection, leaving a significant impact across the country.
Strengthening Community Health and Sanitation
Swacchhata Pakhwada Initiatives: During the government’s Swacchhata Pakhwada campaign, SBI engaged in extensive cleanliness drives that included beach cleaning and distribution of jute bags. Notably, the bank constructed toilets and organized no-plastic campaigns, highlighting its commitment to environmental sustainability. Additionally, SBI provided 10,000 PPE kits to sanitation workers in Kerala, investing Rs. 75 lakh in this vital initiative.
Healthcare Enhancements: SBI adopted 158 Primary Health Centres nationwide, spending Rs. 11.38 crore on medical equipment and infrastructure improvements. Educational Initiatives: The bank distributed laptops in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to support rural children’s education. Furthermore, SBI converted 232 classrooms into smart classrooms nationwide, spending Rs. 10.62 crore, benefiting approximately 1.26 lakh children. Partnerships with organizations like the Akshaya Patra Foundation enabled SBI to support meals for 500 children, promoting school enrolment.

Tree Plantation Drives: In collaboration with Isha Outreach, SBI facilitated the plantation of 9 lakh trees across the Cauvery basin in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, addressing the local water crisis and providing economic benefits. Additionally, the bank supported the plantation of 2 lakh trees in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul District, with a CSR expenditure of ₹2 crore.
