PUNE (India CSR): Varroc is proud to announce that its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the Kham River Revitalization Project, has been selected as one of the top five contenders for the prestigious World Resources Institute (WRI) Ross Center Prize for Cities. The company has been working towards the restoration of the Kham River in Aurangabad along with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Aurangabad Municipal Corporation, EcoSattva Environmental Solutions, and Aurangabad Cantonment Board.
The WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities is a prestigious award that recognizes innovative ideas, visionary leaders, and transformative projects creating more sustainable and inclusive cities worldwide. This significant recognition highlights Varroc’s commitment to sustainable urban transformation and its impactful work in environmental conservation and community development.

The Kham River, once a seasonal river, had deteriorated into a stream of waste due to sewer leakage and improper solid waste disposal. However, an initiative launched in 2016 has successfully restored and cleaned a 1.5 kmstretch of the river. This project implemented several interventions, including the creation of community-centered riverfront parks, deep ecological restoration, socially integrated waste management, and a city-wide cultural campaign. The result has been a revitalized Kham River in Aurangabad, fostering a new cultural ethic around the ecosystem.
