Navigating Bank Holidays in April 2024: A Comprehensive Guide

Bank Holiday in April 2024: Banks in India will observe a total of 14 days of closure due to various holidays, including national, regional, and standard weekly closures.

Bank Holiday in April 2024: In India, banks usually shut down on public holidays, including national and state-specific holidays. National holidays like Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15), and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2) mean banks are closed across the country. Also, festivals such as Diwali, Christmas, Eid, Guru Nanak Jayanthi, Good Friday, and others are considered bank holidays. Additionally, the second and fourth Saturdays of every month are marked as holidays.

In April 2024, banks will be closed for 14 days due to various holidays. These include the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays, public holidays, and some regional holidays. The holidays are decided by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the respective state governments. Services like Internet banking and ATMs will be operational during these holidays.

The first holiday in April 2024 starts from the yearly bank closing on April 1st and other holidays like Eid al-Fitr which will be celebrated for two days on April 10 and 11 so banks will be observed holidays which apply to all banks in India except some states. These holidays may vary from state to state as holidays are determined keeping in mind the local festivals.

Bank Holidays List for 2024

National Holiday Closures:

  • Yearly Account Closing (April 1st): Most banks across India will be closed on April 1st to facilitate the annual closing of accounts. However, some states, including Mizoram, Chandigarh, Sikkim, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya, will be exceptions.

Regional Holiday Closures:

  • Keep an eye on local variations: Several regional holidays will impact bank operations in specific states. Here’s a quick rundown:
    • Friday, April 5th: Jammu & Kashmir and Telangana will observe Jumat-ul-Vida/Babu Jagjivan Ram’s Birthday.
    • Tuesday, April 9th: Banks in states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Goa, and Jammu & Kashmir will be closed for festivities like Gudi Padwa/Ugadi Festival, Telugu New Year’s Day, and Sajibu Nongmapanba (Cheiraoba).
    • Wednesday, April 10th: Bohag Bihu/Cheiraoba/Baisakhi/Biju Festival will be celebrated in Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Jammu & Kashmir, leading to bank closures.
    • April 11, Thursday: Ramzan-Id (Eid al-Fitr) (1st Shawaal) (Several States)
    • April 13, Saturday: Bohag Bihu/Cheiraoba/Baisakhi/Biju Festival/Second Saturday (All Over India)
    • April 17, Wednesday: Shree Ram Navami (Chaite Dasain) (Several States)
    • Monday, April 15th: Bohag Bihu will be observed in Assam, while Himachal Pradesh celebrates Himachal Day, resulting in bank closures in both states.
    • Wednesday, April 17th: Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and several other states will observe Shree Ram Navami.
    • Saturday, April 20th: Tripura will observe Garia Puja.

Don’t forget to factor in the usual weekly closures:

  • All Sundays throughout April
  • Second Saturday of the month (April 13th)
  • Fourth Saturday of the month (April 27th)

A Final Reminder

While this list provides a general overview, it’s always a good practice to double-check with your local bank branch or their website for the most accurate and up-to-date information on specific closures. Although physical branches might be closed, online banking and ATM services are generally operational throughout the month. So, you can still manage many of your banking needs remotely during these bank holidays.
