MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) police have cast a spotlight on corporate governance lapses with the recent booking of three top directors of a renowned software company. The directors are accused of a hefty scam amounting to Rs 2 crore, underlining the pressing need for stringent corporate governance measures in the IT sector.
The Accusation
An Andheri-based digital market technology solution firm has claimed that the accused IT service and consulting company promised a revolutionary software. In anticipation, the complainant company provided a whopping Rs 2 crore as an advance payment. Unfortunately, the software was neither delivered nor the money refunded.
Charges and Details
The MIDC police unveiled the names of the directors involved in this deception: Ram Pothula, Harshada Pathula, and Bharat Chauhan. These individuals represent Dragonfly Data Factory India Private Limited, an IT company headquartered in Hyderabad. Both sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code are now looming over the accused.
Timeline of the Fraud
Rahul Kumar Singh, the legal manager at 63 Moons Technology Ltd., has detailed that this unscrupulous transaction spanned from November 2015 through September 2023. According to Singh, Dragonfly Data Factory baited the complainant with their DataSwarm software. This software, alleged to have groundbreaking features, promised to reshape Internet of Things (IoT) analysis, particularly in health and education sectors. By leveraging these claims, the accused managed to persuade the complainants of potential profitability and prominence in the industry.

As the charges have been filed, police are diving deeper into the investigation to ascertain the complete scale and motive behind this fraudulent activity. Attempts to reach out to two of the accused directors have been met with silence, intensifying the speculations and concerns around this case.
