Unseen Heroes of Entrepreneurship: Sudha Murthy Salutes Wives Behind Success

Sudha Murthy's powerful address served as a heartfelt tribute to the unsung women in the entrepreneurial landscape, acknowledging their relentless efforts and sacrifices behind their successful partners.

The Infosys Foundation Founder Offers an Unvarnished Insight into the Strength and Sacrifices of Women in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

Insightful Ode from Infosys Foundation Founder Recognizes Women’s Contributions in the Business World

BENGALURU (India CSR): Sudha Murthy, a distinguished author, philanthropist, wife of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, mother-in-law of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and founder of Infosys Foundation, lent her voice to poignant reality at the Moneycontrol Startup Conclave 2023 event held in Bengaluru. She paid a heartfelt tribute to the unseen pillar of strength for many successful men – their wives.

Challenging Eccentricity, Unwavering Support

Taking center stage at the conclave, Murthy commenced her powerful address by acknowledging the hardships faced by women in dealing with their highly successful, often eccentric husbands.

“I just want to tell all young entrepreneurs that it is very difficult to deal with a more successful man. They are not normal, they are eccentric, they don’t have logic at home – only in the office,” she candidly expressed at the beginning of her speech.

Juggling Many Hats, Fulfilling Multiple Roles

According to a report by Moneycontrol, she further delved into the burdensome expectations of such successful men. They envisage their wives to seamlessly morph into multiple roles – wife, secretary, finance manager, nanny, advisor, and more. A failure in any of these roles often leads to adverse repercussions.

“They expect you to be their wife, secretary, finance manager, nanny, adviser, and many more roles. A woman has to do all those. And any one of them you fail that affects them badly,” she highlighted.

A Penance Paralleled to Corporate Struggles

The philanthropist, known for her forthright attitude, paralleled the struggle of finding a firm place in the corporate world to the arduous penances of the ancient era. She elaborated that, akin to these penances, individuals often dedicate their entire lives, youthful days, dreams, and tensions to their respective companies.

Stronger, Impractical, Yet Accepting Women

Amid the echoing applause from the audience, Murthy made a powerful assertion about the strength of these women who stand tall despite hardships. She noted the irony of these women often accepting their husbands’ words, despite their impracticality.

“And a woman has to be stronger than a man. He may be very strong in his company but I am double of that. Every entrepreneur’s wife, I feel, is more gifted, more hard-working than their husband, a better manager, an excellent CEO, and a great companion,” Murthy acclaimed.

Furthermore, she asserted, “And they believe their husband’s words. Most of them are impractical but accepting. All these women, who have made wonderful things for their husband – the honour should go to them.”

Murthy’s profound words served as a powerful ode to the often-overlooked contributions of women in the entrepreneurial landscape, recognizing their hard work, sacrifices, and unwavering support behind their successful partners.
