BANGALORE (India CSR): As the world marks the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, Embassy Group, a leading real estate developer, underlines its dedication to environmental sustainability.
Shaina Ganapathy, Head of Community Outreach Initiatives for Embassy Group, shared, “Conservation of the environment is inherent to Embassy Group’s culture. We aim to drive positive change by providing infrastructure-based solutions to enhance basic amenities around Embassy communities.”
In resonance with this year’s World Environment Day theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution”, Embassy Group pledges to partner with government and local administrative bodies, NGOs, and other corporates. “Our collective goal is to reduce our dependence on plastic, increase rates of reuse, waste collection, and recycling, and expedite safer disposal systems,” Ganapathy added.
Embassy Group’s ongoing commitment has been evident in its work in the Bettahalasuru Panchayat in North Bangalore, where it has been actively engaged since 2012. The Panchayat, which encompasses 10 villages, was grappling with air, water, and soil pollution due to widespread dumping and burning of waste, notably plastic, amounting to approximately 53 metric tonnes per month from around 2,500 waste generators.

To promote sustainable living and community involvement, Embassy Group, in partnership with The Anonymous Indian Charitable Trust (TAICT), launched the EcoGram programme. Initially a pilot project in Tarahunise, EcoGram has now extended to the entire Bettahalasuru Panchayat, positively impacting over 4,000 households.
Echoing the importance of community involvement, Ganapathy stated, “We’ve placed a strong emphasis on community engagement and awareness initiatives curated by women and children in these communities. Through our Shakthi programme, 50 women have stepped forward as eco-ambassadors.”
In support of these daily waste collection and segregation efforts, Embassy Group has established EcoHub, an integrated solid waste management centre.
“World Environment Day’s 50th anniversary underscores the significant role of citizen and local-led environmental movements,” Ganapathy emphasised. “Involving local and key stakeholders enhances the effectiveness of systemic change and accountability. The path to real change lies in the understanding that environmental issues are best addressed when every concerned citizen, at all levels, actively participates.”
Embassy Group continues its proactive stance towards environmental sustainability, remaining committed to promoting an eco-friendly culture within the communities it serves.
