Bengaluru: Allstate India, a subsidiary of the Fortune 100 US insurance company, was recognized for its leadership in the Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) project at the NASSCOM Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Partners’ Felicitation Ceremony in Bengaluru on December 6th.

The RWH project, which is supported by the NASSCOM Global Capability Centres Karnataka chapter, aims to provide clean drinking water to local school children and surrounding communities by setting up rainwater harvesting units in select government schools.

Rainwater Harvesting Project Makes a Difference

The project has successfully covered 69 schools in the first three years and Allstate India has installed RWH units in 6 schools in Bengaluru and Pune. So far, over 27 million litres of water have been harvested and more than 24,000 students and communities have gained access to clean water.

Rainwater Harvesting Project Expands to Over 50 Schools in 2023 and Beyond

The goal is to reach over 50 schools in 2023 and more than 2,675 schools in the next five years. The Forward Foundation is the implementation partner for this project, which is part of Allstate India’s commitment to developing sustainable solutions and addressing climate challenges.

Focuses on Water Conservation and Resource Sensitivity

Chetan Garga, Managing Director and Senior Vice President of Allstate India stated that water conservation is a crucial step in India’s fight against climate change. He explained that the Rainwater Harvesting project, which was initiated by NASSCOM and implemented in government schools in Bengaluru, aims to not only provide clean drinking water to local school children and surrounding communities, but also teach resource sensitivity to the future leaders of tomorrow. Garga also mentioned that the state government has been supportive of the project and that there is a great opportunity to expand it to more than 2,600 schools in Urban Bengaluru. He expressed hope that the project will bring about visible change and make a positive impact on society.
