VADINAR (India CSR): Nayara Energy has been working to achieve measurable impact in areas of water management to positively contribute to the socio-economic development of the communities in which it operates – Devbhoomi Dwarka, the company said.
Until January 2022, the company has constructed and renovated 649 wells including bore well recharges, open well recharge, new check dams, deepened structures and improved drinking water storage and distribution, farm ponds, field outlets and water harvesting and promoted micro-irrigation in 642 hectares, a statement said.
The company has also created water storage and recharge with the potential to save 14.23 MCM. As a result, the company has increased irrigation potential from 1244 hectares in 2014 to 4801 hectares in January 2022.
Water resource management is one of the most crucial and vital components of Nayara Energy’s work in the region.
In 2014-15 Nayara Energy conducted a geo-hydrological study and aquifer mapping across 15 project villages.
According to the study, the region had around 44.0 million cubic meters (MCM) water deficit to meet required agriculture and households demand in project villages.
To meet this demand and ensure supply, Nayara Energy has adopted an integrated approach for construction and renovation of water harvesting structures, groundwater recharge and optimum utilization of water through the promotion of micro-irrigation.
The company owns and operates India’s second-largest single-site refinery at Vadinar, Gujarat with a current capacity of 20 MMTPA.
