Hindi Media tycoon Yogendra Mohan Gupta, Chairman Jagran Group passes way

Born on July 21, 1936 Gupta also edited ‘Kanchan Prabha’ magazine. He is also credited with setting up Lakshmidevi Lalit Kala Akademi in Kanpur.

Yogendra Mohan Gupta, Chairman of Jagran Group, India’s largest Hindi Media passed away in Kanpur on Friday, the media house said. He immensely contributed to the growth of media group. His death was officially announced by Dainik Jagran from its official Twitter handle.

He was known for catapulting the Jagran Group to greater heights. He was also a known poet, having made contributions in the growth of art and culture in the country.

His last rites will be performed in Kanpur on Saturday, Dainik Jagran tweeted from its official handle about the demise of Yogendra Mohan.

The 83-year-old was unwell and breathed his last at a private hospital, the media house said.

Contribution to Jagran Group

Yogendra Mohan started contributing to Dainik Jagran in his early days. He first took up the advertising front. He did new experiments for advertising. Due to his efforts, the newspaper got financial strength. He was an efficient administrator in the institute. He was also known as a compassionate social worker, Dainik Jagran report said.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among the leaders who condoled his death.

Contributions to educational projects

Extending condolences to the bereaved family, President Kovind said while working to increase the reach of Hindi newspapers, he also made special contributions in the field of educational projects.

”My condolences to his family and fans,” Kovind said in a tweet.

An irreparable loss to the world of art, literature and journalism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was deeply saddened by the demise of Yogendra Mohan Gupta. His death is an irreparable loss to the world of art, literature and journalism, Modi said. ”I express my condolences to his family in this hour of grief. Om shanti,” he tweeted.

Vice President Naidu described the death of Yogendra Mohan as an irreparable loss to the world of journalism. ”Along with Hindi newspapers, he made a significant contribution in the field of education, art and culture. May god give strength to his family members to bear the loss in this hour of grief,” the Vice President Secretariat tweeted, quoting Naidu.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Yogendra Mohan had a very nuanced understanding of issues. His passing away is a great loss for Hindi journalism, he wrote on Twitter.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the death of the Jagran group chairman was an irreparable loss for journalism.

He prayed to Lord Ram to grant the departed soul a place in his supreme abode and give strength to the bereaved family and the readers to bear the loss.

Contribution to the Art & Culture

He was an art lover. Besides being credited for taking the Jagran group to new heights, Yogendra Mohan Gupta also immensely contributed to the growth of art and culture in the country. He was the force behind the setting up of the Lakshmi Devi Lalit Kala Academy in Kanpur. Gupta was also a renowned poet and known for his literature.

Mahendra Mohan Gupta, Chairman, Managing Director and Editorial Director of Dainik Jagran, while paying tribute to him said that Yogendra Mohan was well absorbed in literary practice besides fulfilling his role of guardian, mentor and guide of the Jagran family. Apart from writing, he was also deeply interested in singing and also wrote poems.

“He was particularly interested in the literature based weekly feature page of Dainik Jagran. In fact, this page was started with his inspiration at a time when the space for literature in newspapers was decreasing.”, Mahendra Mohan said.

Later it became a trend in the news world. He adopted a similar innovative vision as the Director of Advertising of Jagran and worked to establish the newspaper world as an industry more firmly, a Jagran report said.
