Sula Vineyards, India’s most loved wine brand has joined International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) to tackle the climate crisis by meeting IWCA’s Net-Zero target by 2050.  For Sula, sustainability has always been a guiding principle of life and business. It strives to be a responsible steward of the land, not just because it’s the right thing to do but also because it’s the best way to make authentic, distinctive wines.

From generating almost 70% of electricity through solar panels to switching to lightweight glass bottles and localizing supply chains, sustainability drives every operation. Steered by the principals of the founder & CEO – Rajeev Samant, sustainability is not a fad but a way of conducting business.

“We are thrilled to join forces with International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), the leading forum of prestigious wineries worldwide fighting climate change. Sula is one of the most sustainable wineries in the world and we are committed to a greener future for our planet and future generations. It is imperative today that all businesses realize their responsibility towards the environment and reducing global warming. This partnership is a strong step towards the greater, greener good!” said Rajeev Samant, Founder – CEO, and Chief Sustainability Officer of Sula Vineyards.

Founded in 2019 by Familia Torres of Spain and Jackson Family Wines of California, International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) was created by two leading wine families deeply rooted in environmental stewardship with a passion to preserve the world’s great wine heritage in the face of climate change. IWCA is a working group with a mission to take collective action to decarbonize the global wine industry, underscored with goals for member wineries to become Net-Zero by 2050 across Scopes 1-3, ensuring constant reductions to meet intermediate targets by 2030 in alignment with the United Nations’ Race to Zero campaign.

By joining the United Nations’ Race to Zero campaign, IWCA has become a facilitator and champion within the wine and agricultural industries to build momentum and support for immediate solutions that help move wine producers and vineyard owners closer to becoming climate positive. IWCA will publish an annual report in October 2021 showing progress on its member wineries’ GHG emissions status and goals, which is required by Race to Zero.

“Our goal was to gather the most environmentally committed wineries, and we hoped our initiative would work as a boost for other wineries to accelerate or start their carbon emissions reduction programs. It is therefore great to see that now with 12 new applicant members joining, we are more than 20 wineries worldwide. We are convinced that this will have a multiplier effect, especially in combination with the appointment as Secretariat of the renowned Meridian Institute.” said Miguel A. Torres, President of Familia Torres.

Sula Vineyards was joined by 11 more wineries from across the globe bringing the total IWCA membership to more than 20 wine companies spanning 7 different countries and 5 continents.
