Workshops to cover various perspectives of CSR and related issues particularity
RAIPUR (Chhattisgarh) : After successive workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in various cities across the county Centre for Training & Research in Responsible Business (CTRiRB ) is organizing two days CSR workshop on February 25-26, 2011 at Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh, a mineral rich and one of the fastest developing state.
The theme of the workshop would be “CSR Essentials Challenge of Corporate Social Responsibility in the Mining Industry”. Workshops to cover various perspectives of CSR and related issues. INDIACSR (www.indiacsr.in) the only and biggest CSR portal is key partner of the workshop. The venue to be announced soon. Last Date for registration is February 15, 2011.
Though the workshop targets the Mining Industry it is a workshop for all industries interested in implementing a CSR programme.
CTRiRB workshops help participants to acquire the skills and competencies required to become qualified CSR practitioners. Through specialized, detailed, and focused training, they provide participants the tools and practical framework to improve CSR decision making, manage risks, measure performance, and to create and leverage partnerships. The workshops allows participants to learn from the experiences and approaches of their peers working in the field, while also taking direction from CTRiRB speakers.

The Mining industry, like most others, is being forced to wend its way through complex and evolving economic, social and environmental challenges Respecting the environment and building constructive relationships with communities is fundamental to assuring the long-term future of mines and processing operations.
The new challenges call for immediate solutions since the community and investors are becoming increasingly concerned about social and environmental risks. Legal cases are increasing as stakeholders and civil society organizations are becoming more active and sophisticated. To face these challenges the mining industry needs to actively adopt a more active corporate social responsibility agenda.
A well drafted and implemented CSR programme would help mining companies to safeguard their license to operate, improve access to capital, contribute to improve reputation and enhance stakeholder, including employees, engagement. Investment in local community is more important today than it was a decade ago. Financial institutions are screening extractive project loans for compliance with sustainability and CSR issues.

The main objectives of the workshop is to enable participants to acquire the skills and competencies required to undertake effective planning and implementation of the CSR Agenda, provide participants the tools and practical framework to improve CSR decision making, manage risks, measure performance, and to create and leverage partnerships, to help move away from conventional philanthropy to community’s need oriented initiatives through objective stakeholder-engagement-processes, to develop understanding on how money spent could cover larger social and environmental issues, to enable participants to learn from the experiences and approaches of their peers working in the field and appreciate how sustainability reporting could be an effective and transparent mode of communicating with all the stakeholders.
