What is the Future of Wireless EV Charging in the EV Industry?
Share Share Share Share

Electric vehicles are gaining popularity in the automotive industry. Both consumers and legislators favor EVs over ICE vehicles. With this growing adoption of EVs, the electric vehicle charging infrastructure is evolving simultaneously. With Electric vehicle charging stations being installed by companies like Statiq, where there were fever chargers available, now it is easier to find charging stations. The charging manufacturers are coming with more user-friendly chargers. But still, there is a lot of room for improvement. The introduction of wireless charging will make charging more convenient, affordable, and accessible. The requirement for space for charging will also decrease.

This blog will dig deeper into understanding wireless charging, its benefits, and future possibilities.

Wireless EV charging is also called inductive charging or wireless power transmission. Wireless EV charging does not need a physical connection (wires) to exist between the electric car and the charging station. It uses magnetic fields to transfer energy from the charging pad on the ground to a receiver pad installed on the EV, allowing for convenient and efficient charging.

Benefits of Wireless EV Charging

  1. Convenience

Wireless EV charging does not need physical cables and connectors, making it convenient. Users can park and walk away, saving their time and effort. Hosts can install chargers in a limited space. Charger manufacturers’ dependency on heavy infrastructure reduces, decreasing their production and installment costs.

  • Safety and Durability

Charging cables can get damaged by use over time and can cause a safety hazard. Whereas, with Wireless EV Charging, they are installed in fixed locations and protected from the elements, making them more durable, and as there are no cables, it eliminates the risk of potential accidents.

  • Compatibility

Another downside to plugged charging is differing connector types. EV owners have needed help finding stations that conform to their vehicles’ manufacturer connector type. Many have had to use adapters. Wireless EV charging eliminates any compatibility issues.

Future Possibility of Wireless EV Charging

Integrated Infrastructure

For Wireless EV charging, charging pads can be embedded in the existing infrastructure. It eliminates the need for dedicated charging stations, further expanding the accessibility and availability of charging options for EV owners and paving the way for seamless long-distance travel.

Efficiency and Improved Energy Management

Intelligent features like dynamic charging control and automated power adjustment can be added to wireless charging pads to increase charging efficiency and accommodate varying charging needs.

Scalability and Standardization

Standardizing wireless charging is crucial for EVs. It will ensure different systems work together, making it easier and more reliable to charge your EV anywhere. It paves the way for a robust charging network for the future of electric vehicles.

Conclusion

Commercial fleets have already started to explore the Wireless EV charging technology. Its integration into existing infrastructure, improved efficiency, and future-proofing capabilities make it a promising technology for shaping the future of mobility. As wireless charging continues to advance and becomes more standardized, it has the potential to revolutionize how we charge our electric vehicles and pave the way for a greener and more sustainable transportation ecosystem.
