Fulfilling and Exceeding Obligations

For the financial year ending March 31, 2025, Sunshield Chemicals’ average net profit over the preceding three years amounted to Rs 22.49 crore. In accordance with Section 135(5) of the Companies Act, 2013, the company’s calculated CSR obligation, representing two percent of this average net profit, was Rs 44.97 lakhs. After accounting for a minor surplus of Rs 74,374 carried over from previous CSR projects, the net obligation for the year stood at Rs 44.23 lakhs.

Impressively, Sunshield Chemicals not only met but exceeded this commitment, spending a total of Rs 44.30 lakhs on CSR activities during the year. This results in a positive excess amount of Rs 6,723 available for set-off in succeeding financial years, showcasing a diligent and robust approach to its social commitments. No funds were diverted to administrative overheads or impact assessments, ensuring that nearly every rupee spent directly contributed to the initiatives on the ground. The company also confirmed that no capital assets were created or acquired through these CSR funds.

Investing in the Future: Education Initiatives

A cornerstone of Sunshield Chemicals’ CSR strategy lies in empowering future generations through education. During the 2024-25 financial year, the company allocated Rs 3.36 lakhs towards promoting education, specifically by organizing education fairs. These fairs likely serve as vital platforms, connecting students with educational opportunities, resources, and career guidance, thereby contributing significantly to skill development and intellectual growth within the community.

Furthermore, the company extended its support to educational infrastructure, earmarking Rs 11.69 lakhs for infrastructure support in village schools. This investment is crucial in providing conducive learning environments, which are fundamental to quality education, especially in rural areas where such resources are often scarce.

Nurturing Sporting Talent: A Focus on Sports Promotion

Recognizing the multifaceted benefits of sports, including physical well-being, discipline, and teamwork, Sunshield Chemicals dedicated Rs 10.48 lakhs to the promotion of rural sports, nationally recognized sports, paralympic sports, and Olympic sports. This initiative underscores the company’s belief in holistic development, fostering a culture of health and competitive spirit beyond urban centers. By supporting diverse sporting disciplines, Sunshield Chemicals aims to unearth and nurture talent, potentially creating pathways for aspiring athletes from various backgrounds.

Building Foundations: Rural Development and Environment

In a direct effort to uplift rural areas, Sunshield Chemicals invested Rs 18.04 lakhs in rural development and environmental sustainability through road construction. Improved road infrastructure is a critical enabler for rural communities, facilitating better access to markets, healthcare, and education, and enhancing overall economic activity. This highlights a strategic investment that yields broad-based developmental benefits for the surrounding regions.

While the previous year saw significant spending on environmental sustainability through plantation and safety systems, the focus shifted this year more towards infrastructure, with the road construction being a primary example. The company’s ongoing commitment to environmental initiatives aligns with its overall sustainability goals, recognizing the importance of a healthy ecosystem for community well-being.

Prioritizing Health and Hygiene

In a direct measure to enhance public health, Sunshield Chemicals spent Rs 73,000 on the promotion of health and hygiene. Though a smaller allocation compared to other areas, such initiatives are vital for community health, particularly in underserviced regions, by promoting awareness and access to basic hygiene practices.

Governance and Transparency in CSR

Sunshield Chemicals maintains a robust governance framework for its CSR activities. Given that the CSR expenditure for the year was less than Rs 50 lakhs, the Board of Directors itself discharged all the functions of the CSR Committee. This direct oversight ensures that CSR initiatives are well-integrated into the company’s strategic planning and closely monitored. The company’s CSR Policy, along with approved projects, is readily accessible on its website (www.sunshieldchemicals.com), promoting transparency and accountability. Furthermore, the company reported that an impact assessment of CSR projects was not applicable for the period, indicating that while their spending was significant, it may not yet have reached the threshold requiring a formal impact assessment under the current regulations.

A Commitment to Sustainable Value Creation

Sunshield Chemicals’ comprehensive CSR report for 2024-25 paints a picture of a company deeply invested in the communities it serves. The strategic allocation of funds across education, sports, rural development, and health initiatives reflects a thoughtful approach to corporate citizenship. By consistently fulfilling and exceeding its CSR obligations, the company underscores its dedication to fostering positive societal change and building long-term value not just for its shareholders, but for all stakeholders. This proactive stance in corporate social responsibility strengthens Sunshield Chemicals’ reputation as a responsible and forward-thinking industry leader.
