ODISHA : To mark International Women’s Day,Vedanta SSLT Jharsuguda business unit kicked off a week long celebration under the aegis of the group’s nationwide ‘Sakhi’ campaign to mark ‘Women’s Week‘. This campaign will touch a 1000 women not only through its health initiatives, but also bring them together to leverage their collective strength for their empowerment.
On this occasion Vedanta organized a maternal health camp at Bhurkamunda and also organized a felicitation ceremony for its women employees. More than 200 female employees, who represent a significant portion of its workforce, along with the senior management team participated in the event.Similarly, as part of CSR plan, a day long program was conducted at village Bhurkamunda to commemorate the International Women’s Day where an awareness session on maternal health was discussed.
Its objective was to create awareness among pregnant women on how to avail nutrients and relevant medication on pregnancy. Dr.Jagdish Pattjoshi, Medical Officer in charge MHU and Dr. Sabita Swain, from SSL, Health Department delivered a speech on this topic.
The campaign was followed by a health check-up and distribution of protein powder as nutrient supplement for nearly 65 pregnant women registered at Aanganwadi centres of two core villages; Bhurkamunda and Bhagipalli. More than 65 pregnant and lactating women participated in the program. The campaign is run by the Vedanta CSR team, women employees at Vedanta, Board of Directors of Subhalaxmi Cooperative and Vedanta Ladies Club to make the occasion not only purposeful but effective.
