JHARSUGUDA (Odisha): A day long seminar on ‘Industrial Accident and its Prevention’ was held on 20 December in the conference hall of Vedanta Aluminium Ltd here at Jharsuguda. The workshop was jointly organized by Odisha Safety Promotional Association (OSPA) and Vedanta Aluminium Ltd wherein all major leading industrial houses in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts took part. Imbibing a culture of safety within all industries and minimizing the human-error element present therein emerged as a major concern and there was a general consensus that all accidents can be prevented if everyone tries for that.
Er.H.S. Mohanty, Director Factories & Boilors, Govt. of Odisha, Er. S. K. Mishra, Chairman OSPA, Dr. M K Pradhan, Dy. Director of Factories and Boilers (Safety), Mr. D. K. Singh, Head Sustainability & HSE, Vedanta Jharsuguda, Mr. Siva Ramkrishnan, Head Ultratech, Jharsuguda and Mr. Gattu Rambhav of Vedanta together with other Senior officials of Vedanta Jharsuguda and representatives from other industrial houses were present during the occasion.
The seminar started off with an introductory address by Mr. D K Singh, who at the onset highlighted the need for addressing Safety issues in rapidly developing industrial sectors as a whole. Speaking on the occasion, Er. Mohanty said that in current scenario, safety has become the most concerned area at our sites. Law can’t alone bring safety. It can only be achieved through personal and organizational commitment, because human life is very much precious. Er. Mishra urged everyone to work for safety.
He cited that Safety is everyone’s business and everyone should contribute for it. Dr. MK Pradhan said that in order to achieve success milestones, companies were becoming more and more adventurous and risk taking. But now the time has come to focus more on safety as our basic duty, he added.
It was followed by Paper Presentations on “accident prevention, Safety in confined space & salient provisions of Factories Act” by Er. S.K. Mishra, “Stress management in work place” by Dr. TK Dash, Director Health, TRL Krosaki Ltd, “ Fire Prevention & Protection in Industries” by J K Pattanayak, Consultant Fire & Safety, “ Machinery Safety” by Mr. PK Pradhan, “Safety a state of mind” by Dr. MK Pradhan.
At the end of the seminar, Mr. Abhijit Pati, COO VAL In his concluding remarks congratulated all the participants for their valuable contribution and advocated for a shared knowledge base among industries on the subject. “It is time we must start learning from others mistake and refrain from committing the same.” he concluded.
