United Way of Baroda has been making tireless efforts to reach to the impoverished communities in this pandemic situation since March 2020. It has put forth their helping hands by donating various medical equipment like ventilators, High nasal cannula machines, ECG Machines, X Ray machines, Oxygen concentrators and many more to Government and trust hospitals of Vadodara, Anand, and Ahmedabad.
United Way of Baroda will be further extending these initiatives to meet up to the needs of the deprived communities as well as to cope up with medical crisis faced by various government and trust hospitals of Vadodara.
The second wave of COVID-19 has haunted the entire country. Gujarat has been considered as the alert state as the number of cases are increasing in an adverse manner. According to the Ministry of Health and family welfare, total 6,25,342 cases has been counted and 8045 patients have died due to this pandemic issue. This second phase of COVID-19 has adversely affected Vadodara as compared to the first phase as the cases are rising expeditiously.
There are overall 48,568 cases and 424 death cases as per the recent data by Vadodara Municipal Corporation. The cause of deaths is rapid decrease in oxygen level, sudden cardiac arrest or heart failure, brain stroke and multiple organ failures.
Many Government and trust hospitals in Vadodara have been facing such medical crisis as cases are increasing rapidly and people prefer to get admitted to the hospitals rather than home quarantining. Hearkened to these issues, United Way of Baroda extended their helping hand by donating 5 defibrillators machines from their own corpus funds to SSG hospital and GMERS, Gotri hospital being one of the major COVID hospitals in Vadodara in order to contribute to the fight against COVID-19.
Looking to the advantages to this equipment, onsite defibrillators machines save previous treatment time and can improve survival odds because they can be used before emergency medical services personnel arrived. Sudden cardiac arrest deaths occur each year and there is hardly 5% survival rate of the victims. Using a defibrillator on an individual in cardiac arrest tend to increase its survival rate by 60% according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Being spearhead to fight against COVID-19, United Way of Baroda has been appealing to join United against Covid19 Response Initiatives to support more hospitals of Gujarat State and also spreading awareness to take complete precautions when taking heed to this pandemic.
Minesh Patel, Trustee-UWB and Dr. Binita Verdia CEO-UWB, Dr. Vishala, Medical Superintendent, Gotri Hospital, Dr. Ranjan Aiyer- SSG Hospital Superintendent, Dr. Neeta Bose, RMO Dr. Rajesh Shah were present during hand over the advance medical equipment to the hospitals in this pandemic situation.
Both the Superintendents of COVID Hospitals has conveyed their gratitude towards United Way of Baroda for identifying and meeting up to the hospitals’ crisis in this pandemic situation.
Together we can support and make a difference.
