NEW DELHI: Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd, in conjunction with Toyota Motor Corporation and its nationwide dealer network, has introduced its unique training initiative – The Toyota Technical Education Programme (T-TEP) – at the Fr Agnel Technical Institute. Bandra(W) Mumbai.

T-TEP in India is a special training module launched in 2006. So far, 14 Institutions have been covered under the program in a span of three years. In its first year it was introduced in Mumbai, at the St Joseph’s Industrial Training Institute, Kurla, in addition to Delhi,Chennai and Hubli..The program was then introduced in Bangalore, Pune, Cochin, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Ghaziabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Lucknow and Indore.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd, with this special training module aims at enhancing the skill sets and employability of the students, at the ITI’s in the country. In the first batch as many as 20 students will undergo the T-TEP training, at Fr Agnel Technical Institute. T-TEP aims to support the Industrial Training Institutes in the country to develop highly skilled young talented technicians for the automotive service industry.
Technical manpower currently available in the Indian automotive service industry, is characterized by low skill levels and is not trained for repair and diagnostics of the latest models of vehicles available in the market. T-TEP hopes to bridge these gaps by partnering with ITI’s and jointly working with its dealers.

St. Francis Technical Institute, Ghaziabad
Ramakrishna Mission Ashram Automobile Training Center, Narendrapur, Kolkata
Rajhans Industrial Training Center, Jaipur
United Christian Institute – ITC, Suranussi, Jalandhar
Apart from being technical institutes of academic repute and offering automotive courses with proper classrooms and practice areas, the selection criteria for institutes to participate in T-TEP include adequate number of qualified automotive instructors with Government-approved credentials.
The T-TEP curriculum has been synchronized with industrial training institute’s syllabus in the 2nd year of the course. Toyota dealerships provide on – the – job training every week, spread over a period of 6 months, so that the students can get a first hand feel of Toyota technology and service systems. As a part of T-TEP, TKM will train the instructors of the institutes in the latest technology used at Toyota. TKM will extend this partnership to other technical institutes in the coming years and plans to reach out to over 500 technical institute students every year through this program.TMC and TKM will fund the project and provide T-TEP hi-tech training packages and Toyota service training manuals and materials.
T-TEP supports Toyota’s comprehensive human resource development system that extends from the training at T-TEP institutes to recruitment and development at Toyota dealerships. However, if the students wish to join other companies, they are free to do so.
The effectiveness of T-TEP is widely recognized across the globe. Toyota has introduced this program in 53 countries, which include USA, Australia, Italy, South Africa, China, Vietnam and India. T-TEP has been implemented in 420 institutes across the 53 countries.
