Amazon Cares builds a permanent home for the children to help them build a better future

India CSR News Network

HYDERABAD: “I am so happy that we now have our own new home” says a visibly excited 11 year old Thamanna as she takes you around the new building they will now call their home. Ecstatic voices of children such as the 7 year old Pinky and her friends echoed all around during the inauguration of new three-storey building built by Amazon for children from the Care and Love orphanage in Hyderabad.

Amazon, under the aegis of its ‘Amazon Cares’ program today handed over the keys of their new dream home to children from the Care & Love orphanage in Hyderabad. The Care & Love orphanage registered in 2005 as Caring Lives for Sharing Love Charitable Trust by Nuthan Pasala has been working to provide shelter to abandoned and homeless children across Hyderabad.

Amazon, which has been associated with the Care & Love orphanage since 2010, stepped in and contributed to construct a home for the children after the owner of the old home where they stayed asked them to vacate the house. Faced with the prospect of being homeless again, Mr. Pusala approached Amazon for support. Witness to the transformation that the orphanage was making in the lives of many less fortunate children, the company decided to contribute and build a permanent residence for children so that they would never need to move again.

Talking about their new home, Nuthan Pasala, Founder, Care & Love orphanage said, “This initiative by Amazon Cares is a noble effort that will help build and nourish the future of these children. Thanks to the Amazon Cares program, these children will no longer have to worry about having to change house frequently. Amazon has not only given these children a permanent home but a permanent smile, something that will keep them happy always. With this new home, these children will have now have access to a caring environment and better education opportunities.”

Amazon Cares has helped the Care and Love orphanage by building a 2000 square feet, three-level home which will provide the children with a separate dormitory space for girls and boys. This building also has well-built separate cooking & dining area and a study cum computer room. This expanded space would help ensure safety & comfort to all the children and enable the orphanage to support more needy kids as well.

During the inauguration, Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of the Industries & Commerce (I&C) and Information Technology (IT) Departments to Government of Telangana said, “This is a brilliant initiative by Amazon Cares and it is very encouraging to see people such as Nuthan Pasala working towards the betterment of the less fortunate children. I hope many more individuals are inspired by him to think about the community and many more companies are inspired by Amazon to support such individuals.”

Amazon’s association with the Care and Love orphanage started over five year ago when members of Amazon’s customer service team first discovered the good work done by the orphanage. Since then, under its Amazon Cares program, Amazon.in has been providing the kids in the orphanage with groceries, teaching help, donating laptops, along with sponsoring their annual school needs. The orphanage currently supports 38 children – 26 girls and 12 boys.

Sharing her views on this initiative, Deepti Varma, Director HR, Amazon India said, “Our vision is to create opportunities and empower communities to transform lives through our CSR activities. We are thrilled to support these children with quality living, education and proper nutrition. Giving them a better life would help these kids fulfill their dreams and contribute back to the society. This would not have been possible without the continuous and dedicated contribution made by the Amazon employees who have helped us along this journey.”

Amazon India started the ‘Amazon Cares – Community Engagement initiatives’ program with the vision of ‘Creating opportunities and transforming lives’. The programs are designed to impact and enhance the lives of the local community in the areas of education, livelihood, health and sanitation. The Company uses its resources and infrastructure of innovation and technology to support India’s development.
