Bhubaneswar: Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) along with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) organized a panel discussion on November 19, 2010. The topic of the panel discussion was, ‘How Business can Better Connect with Society’.
The panelists included Kurush Noshir Grant, Director, ITC Ltd; Anand Sen, Vice President (TQM & SS), Tata Steel Limited and Aloke Mookherjea, Chairman, Flakt India Limited. Fr. P. T. Joseph SJ, Director, XIMB presided over the discussion and encompassed critical concerns about the contribution of businesses around the globe towards the society.
Kurush Noshir Grant initiated the discussion by explaining the role of ITC in the creation of sustainable models to ensure inclusive social returns and growth. He also mentioned several CSR initiatives that have helped ITC in establishing itself as a socially aware brand.
Anand Sen spoke about ownership of responsibility by industries today and how Tata Steel has benchmarked corporate practices which have helped it attain several awards and accolades.
Aloke Mookherjea focused on the equitable distribution of benefits among the biggest stakeholder of any industry i.e. the society. He also challenged many theorists, who maintained that the ultimate objective of any business is to maximize profits and emphasized on value maximization more than anything else.
This should be mentioned here that Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar has in past pioneered the social cause and taken several social leadership initiatives for citizens all across Orissa. The panel discussion held was one of the many such endeavors by the B-school to sensitize its students in both corporate and social field.
