NARENDRAPUR (India CSR): On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day today, the RISTHA (Regional Initiative of Self Sexual Health for Today’s Adolescent) team from Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) at Meramandali organized an awareness session and rally in Nayabaghirathipur and Narendrapur village of Odapada block, Dhenkanal.
The day, marked annually on May 31st, aims to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. This year’s global theme, “Protecting children from tobacco industry interference,” was the driving force behind the impactful events organized by the RISTHA team.
More than 70 participants took part in this awareness drive which includes adolescent girls and boys aged 10 to 19, as well as Anganwadi workers, ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers, ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives), and Public Representatives of the locality. Jati Naik, Sarpanch of Nayabhagirathipur Gram Panchayat graced on this occasion and thanked for organsing this event for creating awareness in the locality.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Kabita Dhal, the Block Officer, TSF, followed by an informative knowledge-sharing session. The highlight of the day was a rally organized in Nayabhaghirathipur village, where participants collectively raised awareness about the health risks of tobacco use and advocated for stronger tobacco control policies. The day’s events demonstrated the RISTHA team’s dedication to improving the well-being of the community and contributing to a healthier, tobacco-free future.
