JODA (Odisha): The OMQ Division of Tata Steel inaugurated a check dam with irrigation canal at Thakurani village of Deojhar Panchayat in Joda block on October 18, 2016. Mr Pankaj Satija, (GM) OMQ, Tata Steel inaugurated this project in the presence of Ms Tirshi Munda, Sarpanch, Deojhar Gram Panchayat.
This project has been constructed by Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS), a CSR wing of Tata Steel with the support of villagers. The check dam with irrigation canal of 500 metres length is constructed to conserve water from a perennial water source, which will irrigate more than 60 acres of land. The project will benefit 50 households of Thakurani village. It will immensely improve the quality of land by addressing the issue of top soil erosion and at the same time it will enable the farmers to go for multi-cropping.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Satija said: “This was the need of the village as the farmers here are primarily dependent on agriculture and farm-based livelihood. Tata Steel`s CSR activities are all aimed at improving the quality of life of the communities and this effort will immensely help the residents of the village.”
The senior officials from Tata Steel present on the occasion include R P Mali, Chief, Noamundi, Naveen Shrivastava, Head, Katamati Iron Mine and K C Das, Head, Administration, OMQ Division . People representing the local community included Rebati Naik, Vice Chairman, Joda Block and Janardan Naik, Ex-Sarpanch, Deojhar Gram Panchayat.
The villagers from Thakurani appreciated Tata Steel`s effort to provide such facility.
